Senior Lead Machine Learning Scientist

As a Senior Lead ML Scientist, you'll be one of the most senior IC Machine Learning Scientists. This role offers a real opportunity to lead us into an exciting new phase of fraud and financial crime prevention, utilising billions of rows of data and learnings from previous successes in designing and building advanced ML-based systems for topics like personalisation, demand forecasting, workforce management, and detection systems. You will work with Deep Learning, Graph Neural Networks, and transformers, and have space to design architectures that advance our real-time systems.

• Provide technical leadership as our most senior technical IC, shipping highly impactful ML-based solutions and guiding the most impactful opportunities across squads.
  
• Collaborate with mission-oriented cross-functional product squads, including product managers, data scientists, backend engineers and designers in an agile environment.
  
• Advise senior business stakeholders using technical expertise and help set and advance strategic direction across multiple squads.
  
• Act as a technical leader within the Machine Learning discipline, driving up standards and mentoring others.
  
• Identify and scope the most impactful opportunities to tackle product challenges with Machine Learning across the organisation.
  
• Leverage learnings from past successes to lead advancements in product development, utilising deep learning, graph-based, and sequence-based architectures.
  
• Drive technical expertise and best practices across the ML discipline, leading by example and mentoring peers.
  
• Work with the MLOps team to steer ongoing development of tools enabling rapid iteration of models and optimisation of the full ML lifecycle.
  
• Engage with recruitment processes as needed and communicate about the application process; provide accessibility accommodations upon request.

• A multiple-year track record of excellence leading the technical work of a team in the development and deployment of advanced ML models tackling real business problems, preferably in a fast-moving tech company.
  
• Impact-driven with ownership of end-to-end delivery from business problem to measurable production impact.
  
• Experience mentoring ML practitioners, sharing knowledge, and raising the technical bar across teams.
  
• Self-starter mindset with proactive identification of impactful issues and opportunities.
  
• Experience applying advanced machine learning techniques to minimise financial crime and protect customers from fraud.
  
• Extensive production Python coding experience and strong SQL; comfortable with these daily and eager to learn Go for backend microservices.
  
• Comfort working in a team that navigates ambiguity and helps stakeholders resolve it.
  
• Product-minded with focus on customer outcomes and data-informed decision making.
  
• Ability to communicate emerging ML concepts to colleagues who are not domain experts; enthusiasm for fast-moving ML developments.
  
• Adaptable, curious, and keen to learn new technologies and ideas.
