Senior Data Scientist Optimisation
Luton/Hybrid

THE TEAM

The data science team is seeking a Senior Data Scientist/Operational Researcher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data science, ideally in Network & Scheduling. Responsibilities include developing and implementing optimization models, analyzing data to identify innovation opportunities, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver the models we build.

This role is part of the Data Science team responsible for developing new prediction, simulation, optimization, and AI capabilities to transform easyJet into the world’s most data-driven airline. The team is closely integrated with Data Analytics, Data Management, and IT teams, working on multiple transformation projects across the company.

This role reports to a Lead Data Scientist.

Job Purpose

The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for:

  • Leading the delivery of optimization algorithms and mathematical models that solve complex business problems with minimal support from senior team members.
  • Collaborating with the data science and analytics teams to enhance optimization capabilities and communicating complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Participating in most of the Data Science Project Lifecycle using the Data Science Toolbox.

Management and Specialist Tracks

  • Line managing junior team members with support from senior leadership.
  • Developing a broad area of specialization, such as Network & Scheduling, and becoming a trusted expert.

Job Accountabilities

  • Contributing to the Data Science Project Lifecycle from idea to production.
  • Building, validating, and managing models and algorithms.
  • Defining and using KPIs and diagnostics to measure performance.
  • Monitoring data quality to ensure analysis confidence.
  • Following Agile methodologies and hypothesis-driven approaches.
  • Participating in hiring and team building.

Technical Skills Required

  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and a compute-optimized language.
  • Knowledge of optimization techniques like Linear, Integer, and Constraint Programming.
  • Understanding of both exact and heuristic optimization methods.
  • Knowledge of the Data Science Toolbox including programming, data ingestion, visualization, machine learning, optimization, and big data technologies.
  • A degree or MSc in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
