Senior Data Scientist, Analytics - Hotel ProductExpedia is striving to revolutionize the way people search and book hotels and their trips. For this mission, the Lodging team is the pioneer and focal in changing how people around the world shop and purchase travel. We’re looking for a passionate Senior Business Analyst with a strong product development and marketing mindset to join our Lodging Product Analytics team. This position will focus on improving user shopping experience and site engagement as well as increasing conversion and profit through actionable analytics.

This role will challenge the candidate to understand and contribute to many aspects of development of the Hotel business, including product innovation/user behavior, test and learn (A/B as well as multivariate tests), opportunity identification and problem investigation. If you are focused on results, a self-starter, and have demonstrated success in using analytics to drive the innovation and user engagement of a product, this position is for you. Passion for analytics and product development and innovation is a prerequisite. Your primary focus will extend well beyond pulling the data and crunching the numbers. You will tackle complex business problems by converting raw data into meaningful and actionable business insights.What you will do:

Deliver analysis support to the Lodging Shopping team surrounding property level content, e.g. images, hotel details, amenities, free offers, user reviews.

Apply your expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data with a singular goal of profit maximization and a focus on actionable analytics.

Engage with multiple departments across the organization to solve problems and identify trends and opportunities.

Inform, influence, and support decision-making for Hotel/Product.

Function independently with little to no supervision, proactively taking ownership of key analytical projects.

Who you are:

Ability to work through complex business problems with a consultative approach.

Strong analytical/modeling skills and the ability to convert raw data into actionable business insights.

Expert proficiency in Excel and knowledge of SQL is required.

Understanding of AB testing methodology, advanced statistical/predictive modeling, and optimization techniques is highly preferred. Experience with tools such as R is preferred.

Experience with Business Objects and/or Tableau is highly preferred.

Experience with web analytics tools such as Omniture and Tealeaf is highly preferred.

Excellent verbal, written, and data presentation skills are a must.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Ability to prioritize among conflicting demands in a fluid environment.

Experience with Hive and Hadoop is preferred.

At least two years of professional work experience.

Master’s degree in a Business/Statistics/technical field or related discipline preferred.

Experience in an analytical role in an e-commerce, technology company, investment banking, or product management is preferred.
