The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing BIG4's data warehouse, data pipeline, and data products. Equally adept at working with, and supporting, technical and nontechnical stakeholders alike, the role will ensure an optimal data delivery architecture and provide the foundation for BIG4's data and analytics function, enabling systems for business performance measurement, decision support, customer analytics, along with future artificial intelligence use cases.

Job Description

Reporting to the General Manager of Finance & Administration the Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the development and delivery of BIG4's data and analytics roadmap
  • Reviewing and making recommendations in respect of the optimisation of BIG4's data architecture and processing systems
  • Designing, building and maintaining ETL (extract, transform, load) processes to help extract and manipulate data from multiple sources, including the optimisation of existing ETL process and pipelines
  • Automating data workflows such as data ingestion, aggregation, and ETL processing
  • Preparing raw data in data warehouses into a consumable dataset for both technical and non-technical stakeholders (e.g. unified customer data models)
  • Building, maintaining, and deploying data products for analytics and functional teams on cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure)
  • Partnering with the business analyst and functional leaders to develop and deploy machine learning models in production (e.g. ML model to predict loyalty customer churn and responsiveness to incentives)
  • Assisting the marketing and digital teams in the configuration and maintenance of Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, and other web analytics tools
  • Assisting functional leaders in defining data quality tolerances for key data sources and models
  • Ensuring data accuracy, integrity, privacy, security, and compliance through quality control procedures
The Successful Applicant

As the successful applicant, you will ideally posses:

  • Advanced SQL skills and experience with relational database management and design
  • Strong proficiency in object-oriented programming languages, like Python
  • Strong proficiency in cloud-based data warehousing, data pipelines, and workflow management tools (e.g. MS Fabric, Snowflake, Apache Spark, BigQuery)
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based solutions (e.g. AWS, Azure)
  • Strong proficiency in data governance practices, with a focus on data quality (within defined tolerances) and data security
  • Experience developing data models for Power BI (using Power Query / M, DAX)
  • Working knowledge of Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4 configuration
  • Experience building and deploying machine learning models in production
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and with a team
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
