Senior programmers are expected to be subject matter experts and be able to mentor and train junior team members and new hires. They are technically strong, possess good communication and time management skills, are problem solvers, be able to engage in study lead responsibilities, and are willing to mentor junior programmers and new hires.Senior Programmers at GSK will support the planning and execution of the programming activities for GSK clinical trials. They will be accountable for creating, verifying, and documenting analyses of clinical data while adhering to study protocols, analysis plans and GSK / industry standards. They will also be able to lead certain aspects of a study under supervision. Senior Programmers will be expected to participate in capabilities and non-project initiatives, present at internal forums, and learn new programming languages. They will also interact with non-programming team members and participate in core study team meetings under supervision.In this role you willDemonstrate proficiency in developing, QCing, and debugging complex code and macros with minimal supervisionIdentify gaps in current programming best practices and offer suggestionsUnderstand the management of programs, including change control, and their importanceEnsure adherence to standards and has an awareness of evolving standards, both internal and externalKeep an awareness of departmental strategies and initiativesProvide input to strategic planning, where requested and under supervision, which may be shared with stakeholdersAnticipate problems related to assigned work or areas of expertise and able to implement solutions, proactively seeking input from colleagues as neededProvide innovative solutions to solve more complex problems relating to own workContribute changes to programming best practices.Apply standard processes to tasks, ensuring that deliverables are accurate, high quality and met according to agreed timelinesUnderstand GxP, ICH requirements, internal processes and external regulations that govern drug development (where applicable)Quickly understand and implement internal processes and standards in assigned workPerform Quality Control (QC) of other people’s work (under supervision)Perform required archiving activities and understands the implications of accurate and timely documentationAnticipate compliance, quality or governance issues and proposes solutions to achieve resolutionDemonstrate effectiveness in oral and written communications, ability to express ideas, and incorporate feedback to produce quality deliverablesInform supervisor and matrix leaders of appropriate progress and activitiesBe able to explain technical approaches to peers and non-technical colleagues/settingsDeliver presentations with clarity in internal forums and/or external professional industry meetingsUse networking skills to collaborate with peers or non-programming stakeholdersQualifications & Skills:We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:A BSC or BA (or equivalent) in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related subjectExperience or knowledge with using one or more programming languages, such as R, Python, Spotfire, S-Plus, and/or SASIntermediate to advanced programming skills in one or more programming languages, such as R, Python, and/or SASFamiliarity with CDISC standards and its applicationBasic knowledge of Microsoft Office software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)Preferred Qualifications & Skills:Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:Experience with submission activities is preferredIntermediate to advanced understanding of the end-to-end clinical trial processStrong understanding of the purpose and application of key clinical documentsEffective written, verbal communication skillsBasic experience with representing programming function in cross-functional meetings, initiatives, and working groups.Some experience with training and mentoring junior programmersTherapeutic area expertise – Oncology preferredClosing Date for Applications: 21st February 2025 (COB)Please take a copy of the Job Description, as this will not be available post closure of the advert.When applying for this role, please use the ‘cover letter’ of the online application or your CV to describe how you meet the competencies for this role, as outlined in the job requirements above.
