The successful candidates will join the Data Modelling and Engineering Team (DMET), although we also work closely with the Data Platform team. Analytics engineers at MoJ play a critical role in our mission to put data at the heart of decision-making. We're looking for people with the drive to develop a deep understanding of data needs and data availability across specific areas of the Ministry of Justice. You will work in a team of Analytics Engineers, alongside Data Engineers, to bridge the gap between data producers and data users, developing analytical pipelines and self-service tools to acquire and transform data, making it available on our Analytical Platform. As a Senior Analytics Engineer, your work might involve: gathering requirements and translating these into clear deliverables working with data engineers and members of our data platform teams to prioritise, plan and deliver work turning needs and opportunities into flexible, quality-assured, dimensional models for use by analysts and data scientists and ensuring dimensions are conformed wherever possible ensuring content is complete and accurate, and producing summary outputs to demonstrate this completeness and accuracy providing tools to collect, store and present metadata and documentation that enable people to use data intelligently drawing attention to data quality / data governance issues acting as a key point of contact for our analytical user community, helping data users to automate their work, supporting them with tools like dbt and Airflow About you We welcome applications from anyone with the skills we consider to make a good analytics engineer. We are looking for people with experience in the following: SQL working with large relational databases testing and quality assuring data supporting others to learn and implement new tools and technologies It's a bonus if you also have experience of: Python, R or any other programming languages building data and analytical pipelines dimensional modelling including designing and populating star schemas working with business intelligence tools working to improve data quality working with document-oriented data storage formats such as JSON, XML mapping processes to support data and service improvement developing content to support data science / machine learning pipelines working with data and analytics services in the cloud workflow orchestration tools, such as Airflow big data tools, such as Spark and Presto version control tools, such as git building automated testing and deployment workflows working in an agile environment We make our workplace as inclusive as we can. The interview There will be one interview, covered in two sections, which will include a technical exercise and assessment of civil service behaviours. The interview will take place via Microsoft Teams. The purpose of the technical exercise is to test your technical skills. The exercise will last one hour and will involve completing some SQL code, and stating how you would design a data pipeline to solve a specific, given user need. More information on the exercise will be provided to candidates invited to interview.
