Senior AI Engineer - Generative AI and Search - Artificial Intelligence

Bloomberg's Engineering AI department has 350+ AI practitioners building innovative products that leverage technologies such as transformers, large language models, and dense vector databases. We are expanding our team and seeking highly skilled individuals to contribute to AI-driven customer-facing products.
At Bloomberg, we aim to foster a transparent and efficient financial marketplace by making news, research, and financial data searchable and actionable across global markets. Since 2009, we have been developing AI solutions that process vast amounts of structured and unstructured information to produce analytics and insights.
We are looking for Senior AI Engineers with expertise in Information Retrieval, Search technologies, Natural Language Processing, and Generative AI to join our AI Experiences team. Key initiatives include:
Developing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, curating data, and building evaluation frameworks for continuous improvement.
Designing tools for LLM-powered search agents to handle complex queries and scaling solutions for thousands of users.
Prototyping and maintaining high-performing, client-facing search and streaming applications for financial insights.
Building APIs to facilitate search across diverse data collections, ensuring relevance and system reliability.
Opportunities include:
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate AI into client products and enhance user experience.
Architecting and deploying production-quality search systems powered by LLMs.
Identifying and implementing improvements in our search systems through experimentation.
Managing the entire model lifecycle from conception to deployment.
Staying updated with research in IR, NLP, and Generative AI and applying innovations practically.
Representing Bloomberg at industry events and open-source communities.
Requirements:
Experience with NLP, Search technologies, and Generative AI; familiarity with platforms like Elasticsearch is a plus.
Industry experience or a relevant academic background (MSc/PhD preferred).
Strong software engineering skills, especially in data structures and algorithms.
Effective communication skills for collaboration with technical and business teams.
