Job description We are seekinga self-motivated, energetic, and diligent Assay DevelopmentScientist to join our development team. The position is a lab-basedrole, demanding an enthusiastic and proactive mindset, along withgood organisational skills, an ability for problem solving,flexibility and attention to detail. The successful candidate willbe given opportunities for training and development and will beencouraged to contribute to implementing new technologies andprocesses. Overview of the role The position will hold a key rolein the development, optimisation and validation of biology thatunderpins our future rapid multi-pathogen testing platform. Youwill be working within Pictura Bio’s Assay Development group andwill play a key role in supporting development of new capabilitiesin our pathogen detection systems. You will deploy diversetechniques to support different stages of platform development, aswell as perform assays to generate validation data. In addition,you will assist with the daily running of the lab and maintenanceof the equipment. Work will involve the use of many techniques suchas fluorescence microscopy, handling and preparing pathogenicsamples. Training will be provided but a good understanding ofmicrobiology, biochemistry and molecular biology with experiencewith any of these techniques would be an advantage, as wouldprevious experience with biochemical assay development. You willalso prepare data for reports and presentations within the companyand assist in the drafting and review of laboratory protocols.Responsibilities · Independently design, perform and analyseexperiments. · Troubleshoot equipment and methods within theprocess of development of the assay. · Help to test and optimisesample consumable and ensure good integration with the assayhardware. · Liaise with third party users of the prototypeconsumables to gather externally validated data. · Validatingselected pathogens in CL2 conditions. · Analyse, interpret andsummarise results for presentation at internal meetings. ·Contributing to discussions and sharing research findings withcolleagues. · Documenting research findings clearly in anelectronic lab book. · Assist in producing and collatingprocedures, guidelines and reports. · Prepare project plans andreports. · Contribute to general lab duties. · Ability to workflexibly and collaboratively to meet changing demands of projects.· Maintain best practice, quality standards and accurate recordkeeping. · Keep up to date with and support implementation of newtechnologies and protocols. · Communicate effectively with allmembers of the company and with collaborators. · Thrive in anenvironment of openness, teamwork and accountability. Job Requirements Essential · PhD,or MSc (with a minimum of four years of laboratory experience), ina biology, bioengineering, biomedical sciences or biophysicsrelated discipline . · Expertise in fluorescence microscopy. ·Practical experience of assay development in an industrial orproduct development environment. · Broad knowledge of biologicalsciences with an emphasis on imaging pathogenic systems. · Capacityto execute tasks independently to achieve company goals on anestablished timeline. · Superb communication, organization,attention-to-details, multi-tasking, adaptability and teamworkskills. · Knowledge of, and appreciation for, laboratory safetyprocedures. · Enthusiasm to work in a dynamic research environment.Desirable · Ability to design and perform experiments such asreal-time PCR and protein purification. · Expertise in fluorescencelabelling techniques · Expertise in microorganism immobilisationtechniques · Expertise in handling and preparing pathogen samplesfor imaging.
