We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry. SLB Cambridge Research is a distinctive marquee-like structure dominating the High Cross site on the western outskirts of Cambridge, England. This spectacular building was completed in 1985 and the smaller second phase was opened in 1992. It has recently been classified as a Grade II listed building. Altogether, there are more than 930 m2; of laboratory space andoffices for more than 100 scientists, technicians and domain experts.Job Summary:We are seeking a creative self-motivated Research Scientist to develop models and experiments for High-Reynolds-Number flows. The initial focus will be on recommissioning existing multiphase flow loops and will expand to improve design and automate the systems and lead the experiments. The job will require experience in mechanical design, building, and commissioning of flow loops, particularly handling multiphase flows and turbomachinery. The candidate will also need to work constructively and effectively in a multidisciplinary team and engage with business and engineering teams to ensure their solutions have a significant impact. They will also present their work internally and externally.Responsibilities:Work in experimental fluid dynamics, particularly for high-Reynolds-number flows.Work in multiphase flow and mechanical systems' first principles modelling.Engage and collaborate with SLB technical communityAbility to develop novel solutions to research and engineering problems, and articulate them to the technology team and managementPublish scientific papers, write patent applications and attend conferencesQualifications:PhD in a relevant field (Mechanical or chemical engineering, fluid mechanics)Expertise in experimental fluid dynamics, particularly for high-Reynolds-number flowsKnowledge of mechatronics and control systems, and experience with actuation mechanisms (pumps, valves)Experience in mechanical design, building, and commissioning of flow loops, particularly handling multiphase flows and turbomachineryExperience in first-principle modelling of multiphase flow and mechanical systemsExperience in data acquisition, signal processing, and data interpretation including data science approachesKnowledge of Python, ROS, Labview, and (desirable) MatlabExperience in advanced instrumentation for multiphase flow measurements including laser-optical (PLIF, PIV), electrical, ultrasonic, and nuclear techniques is desirableCFD modelling of multiphase flows (Ansys, OpenFoam, COMSOL) is desirableRelevant publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals are desirableSLB is an equal employment opportunity employer.
