As a staff member of the lab, the post holder will conduct research activities in Dr Lin’s lab and support general instrumentation for the related research projects. The post holder will particularly focus on the wing mechanosensation project. The post holder will also facilitate the day-to-day management of the laboratory. The post holder can start with SP16 before the PhD degree is confirmed.


To prepare materials and supplies for experimentsTo take part in planning, execution and analyses of experimentsTo help maintain key lab equipment and toolsTo customize equipment and devices according to experimental needsTo source parts and components for any instrumentation projects in the labTo keep accurate and comprehensive records of all laboratory proceduresTo prepare graphics for online media and lab presentationsTo assist the day-to-day management of the laboratoryTo support the supervision and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the labTo ensure that all work conducted in the laboratory complies with safety regulations and to maintain all relevant safety documentation (. risk assessments, COSHH forms and training records) Provide advice to other staff and students.Attend relevant workshops and conferences as necessary.Develop contacts within the College and the wider community.Promote the reputation of the Group, the Department and the College.
Have a masters degree (or equivalent) in engineering, robotics, experimental sciences. Although PhD degree is preferred.Practical experience in custom instrumentationExperience of dealing with insect care and specimen handlingPractical experience in machine learning and/or computational workExperience in high-speed 3D kinematics and/or motion capturePrevious experience working in a technical environmentExperience in sourcing experimental & instrumental suppliesExperience of technical support and evidence of responsibility
