To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria 1. PhD or equivalent (or thesis submitted*) in at least one of the following subjects: Computer Science, Machine Learning, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Imaging, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related area.
2. Demonstrated competence in machine learning, including experience with medical image analysis, computer vision, or related AI methodologies.
3. Experience working with large language models (LLMs) and/or NLP pipelines, including prompt engineering, fine-tuning or evaluation.
4. Ability to work effectively within a collaborative software development environment and to engage constructively with colleagues from diverse academic and clinical backgrounds.
5. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage tasks independently, meet deadlines and work calmly under pressure.
6. Strong software development skills in Python, with experience integrating ML components into larger software systems.
7. Experience with modern machine learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow) and related tooling.
8. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical ideas clearly and to collaborate with staff across different levels and disciplines. Desirable criteria 1. Knowledge of medical imaging, particularly CMR, and/or familiarity with DICOM and clinical imaging workflows.
2. Experience with medical image analysis or computer vision packages and associated toolkits.
3. Experience with healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR) or integration with electronic patient record systems.
4. Experience with standard software engineering practices, including version control systems (e.g. Git), software testing methodologies and collaborative code development.
