This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer to undertake cutting-edge research in support of the automatization of structural design. By leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms and finite element solutions, you will create a novel tool for the optimization of structural design with focus on hybrid structures made of Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) panels and timber elements. The role will include coding, analysing and designing as well as overseeing the manufacture and testing of prototype structures in the state-of-the-art facilities of Fibrobeton in Duzce (Turkiye).
You will be involved in the formulation of Finite Element models and the creation and training of AI networks. You will also be involved in testing prototypes manufactured in the state-of-the-art facilities of Fibrobeton performing destructive testing to evaluate the real performance of your newly created designs. You will play an active role in the communication of findings and technology transfer activities of the project.
An applicant with:
Structural/Design/Mechanical Engineering background (1st or high 2:1 degree) An interest in earthquake engineering Experience building AI models and ML tools Experience in finite element analysis Experience (or keen interest) in conducting experiments Interest in automation and digitalization
You will benefit from joining a vibrant, multidisciplinary team. The post will be based in the open and collaborative Emerging Structural Technologies group. This will offer you:
The opportunity to develop a technology to help people displaced by earthquakes Freedom to propose new ideas and address structural design automation challenges The opportunity to collaborate with a leading industrial partner, Fibrobeton, whose advanced manufacturing capabilities will be used for the production and testing of specimens The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 38 days off a year, pro rata)
