Job summary

Our Cardiac Care Unit is a busy environment with a high turnover of patients and pressure on beds, but we all work as a team to ensure that patient safety is our priority and that our patients feel well cared for, involved and reassured during their stay with us.

You will be monitoring the condition of your allocated patients closely, raising any concerns immediately and contributing to clinical decision-making. You will be part of the ward round to facilitate communication between your patients and the medical team, and carry out any nursing intervention based on those decisions. On this Unit, most personal care is carried out by the trained nurses. You are expected to take responsibility for all aspects of your patients' care. You will also contribute to the running of the service overall, helping to balance the needs of each individual patient with the realities of a complex service under ever-increasing pressure.

This is an exciting specialist service providing you with new challenges every day. Our patients are the most unstable cardiac patients in Kent, requiring intense nursing input.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for between two and five acutely ill cardiac patients, providing all their care and communicating with patients, relatives and the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate the patients' journey from admission to discharge.

About us

We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people.

If you are passionate about people, you're the perfect fit for us as a health professional.

Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference'.

We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.

In return, we promise to give you all the opportunities and development we can, so you can enjoy a great career with us. We also offer a great reward package with fantastic discounts to enjoy whatever you are doing in your time off.
