Exciting Opportunity: Join Our Recruit to Train Programme!

Our service has an exciting opportunity for a Recruit to Train Trainee CYP RtT Systemic Family Practice for Anxiety Depression and Conduct Disorderto join our team as part of the NHS England (NHSE) funded Children and Young People (CYP) Psychological Training Programmes (formerly CYP-IAPT).

Recruit to Train is a government-funded initiative aiming to grow the child mental health workforce to meet much needed demand. To help reach this goal, NHSE covers salary and training costs for a 1-year post, allowing services to employ trainees to aid in implementing new or expanding existing specialist pathways to bridge the gaps in CYP mental health support.

This is a unique opportunity to apply your learning from weekly teaching into practical clinical interventions working with clients in the service making a direct impact in the lives of children, young people and their families.

Please note: The position will be based within MHSTs across Mid and South Essex with a negotiable base and successful candidates will be expected to travel to Denmark Hill Campus of King’s College London for teaching during the training year.

Main duties of the job

What are we looking for?

We are seeking highly motivated candidates who are enthusiastic about making a difference to children’s mental health through evidence-based interventions based on NICE Guideline recommended treatment.

You will be committed to the CYP Psychological Training Programme core principles: Accessibility, accountability, participation, awareness and evidence-based practice and in providing an inclusive and effective service for children and young people, along with a dedication to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Training Information

This full-time training will begin in January 2025 with around days a week for academic work (teaching and personal study), and days based at the service seeing clients related to training assignments. Trainees will be both an employee of the service and an enrolled student with King’s College London. Upon completion, qualified trainees will receive a KCL Postgraduate Diploma.

Application Process 

This is a dual application process. In addition to applying for this position with us, you must also complete a KCL application for the Course Team to review. The Course Team will liaise with us on whether you meet the academic requirements for the course during the recruitment process. You will only be offered a KCL training place if you are successful in securing this post and you meet the university training requirements (such as academic background, relevant experience, visa approval). 

Working for our organisation

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High-Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 5% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £1,258 and a maximum payment of £2,122 (pro rata for part time staff).

Essential criteria

Minimum second-class Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent standard in a relevant subject ( psychology, social work etc) A registerable professional qualification ( clinical or educational psychology, social work, counselling, mental health nursing, occupational therapy etc) Applications MAY be considered from those who do not have a registerable professional training if they have at least 3 years’ experience in a CAMHS or equivalent setting and can demonstrate equivalence through the RPL (recognition of prior learning) process

Skills

Essential criteria

Good time management and organisational abilities; Effective oral and written communication skills Able to accomodate travel demands associated with the role. IT/Computer literate

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to risk and safeguarding of children and young people.

Experience

Essential criteria

2 or more years of experience working within children and young people in a mental health setting Experience of working with safeguarding issues Experience of multi agency working and liaising across internal & external agencies.
