Are you interested in making a real difference in the area of biomedical data science? This role will provide an excellent opportunity to further develop knowledge and experience as a post-doctoral researcher.

This role is a key position driving planned thematic federating learning projects as part of major radiotherapy research funding for the Leeds Radiotherapy Research Centre of Excellence at the University of Leeds. This post is funded by Cancer Research UK and Leeds Hospitals Charity. The post holder will lead and support projects that leverage and enhance local and international data assets and infrastructure. These efforts will directly enable innovative data analytical approaches, including federated and deep learning, with a focus on real-world data for rare cancers. This research will directly address three impact areas: Health inequalities in cancer care, innovation and development of health technologies, and treatment of rare conditions.

In particular, through the focus on real-world data to understand cancer outcomes, the planned work will address the need to evaluate data from multiple patient groups that are under-represented in clinical trials, including those from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, LGBTQ+ patients, people living in deprived areas, elderly / frail patients, and patients with multiple co-morbidities. Concentrating on rare cancers, where prospective trial data are limited and information gained from every treated patient really matters, will deliver research in a setting where improved local and international data linkage will have the greatest impact; to improve scientific understanding and drive improvements in cancer outcomes and reduce side effects.

The proposed work will collaboratively enhance the established and recently renewed Leeds CRUK Radiation Research Centre of Excellence; to develop technologies for safe local and international data linkage. This exciting role requires an enthusiastic and flexible individual with suitable skills to drive forward the project on all fronts and achieve a successful outcome.

What we offer in return

  • 26 days holiday plus approx.16 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) – That’s 42 days a year!
