OSD Operational Standards Lead

This is a site-based role in Ware, UK.

At the Global Supply Chain (GSC) Ware site, we have a heritage in making innovative medicines for diseases like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), HIV and cancer. An exciting place to work, Ware is the new product introduction site (NPI) for respiratory and oral solid dose medicines and has supported the launch of over 15 new innovative medicines since 2017.

The purpose of this role is to ensure operational standards for the Ware OSD/One Campus collaboration with R&D are developed and in place across Ware M2 facility.

OSD Ware M2 is the New Product Introduction site for the GSC Biologics and Devices network.  The campus is co-located with R&D to enable accelerated development and scale-up activities to product launch and eventual transition to fast-follower network sites.  This role includes proactive leadership for R&D/GSC initiatives and ways of working in M2; including change management for operational teams to run a collaborative one campus culture to meet business objectives and drive improvements and results.

The operational standards lead will create and improve standards Ware OSD VS to meet agile/complex ways of working and ensure alignment and delivery of the OSD M2 ambition.

This role will focus on the mid-term programme management and delivery within the OSD value stream.

The OSD Lead will report into the Value Stream Director at site and will have a team of 3 direct reports.

In this role you will:

  • Provide clearly defined operational expectations/leadership for new products and processes emerging from the R&D pipeline to ensure that they are robust, correctly specified, and fit for purpose in the OSD production environment.
  • Support Value Stream Director in ensuring the appropriate level of prioritization,
    monitoring and evaluation of work programs to deliver the 1-3 yr strategic
    activities for the OSD Value stream.
  • Continuously role model and foster a One Campus mindset and collaborative
    environment for M2 for GSC and R&D staff to deliver NPIs in an efficient manner.
  • Provide/develop operational expertise in partnership with the OSD VS team to deliver
    Safety and Quality standards and NPI/commercial ways of working in conjunction with
    the Ops Mgmt team, for new technologies and novel OSD/NPI equipment installed at the
    Ware OSD Site.
  • Facilitate OSD readiness assessments and Go/NoGo criteria at various stages of project
    delivery in OSD VS on the operational site to meet strategic stream goals.
  • Act as the decision maker to unblock risks/conflicts & facilitate the right groups together to drive a timely decision for on track delivery of strategy/one campus execution
  • Deputise for the OSD VS Director on the Site Senior Leadership Team.

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in a related discipline such as science, engineering or operational management.
  • Significant industry experience in a scientific, biochemical, chemical, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Considerable experience at a senior level in supply chain, operations or manufacturing role.
  • Experience leading technical teams across multiple geographical areas.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing capabilities

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:

  • Higher level education (eg. PhD) or other Chartered / Professional Qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Value Stream leadership experience
  • Excellent management, communication and interpersonal skills, with comfort cooperating with individuals internally and externally at all organisational levels.
  • Experience setting goals and driving results, defining priorities, managing and influencing individual and team performance.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments and delivery of the GSK GCS strategy without direction.
  • Experience identifying and resolving problems.
  • Ability to effectively present information and ideas formally and informally, verbally and in writing to others in a manner that facilitates understanding.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach in order to support global sites at short notice
