Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

1.To work independently, managing and prioritising work allocated to them by an OT.

2.To work with children, young people and their carers in a variety of settings clinic, school, nurseries and home.

3.To effectively communicate with children, young people and their families/ carers as well as other professionals.

4.To ensure the safe use and adjustment of therapeutic equipment.

5.To deliver therapy programmes designed by an OT and be able to make small adjustments in order to meet the child / carer’s needs.

6.To keep accurate records of work undertaken.

7.To raise concerns and initiate appropriate referrals to other professionals.

8.To support the administrative processes of the OT service.

9.To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them, particularly in relation to moving and handling.

10.To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust register.

11. The post holder will work primarily as an OT assistant but may need to complete assistant work also for the physiotherapy team, depending on the demands of both services at the time. Currently, there is a temporary agreement that one day a week will be set aside for the post holder to complete physiotherapy work.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement – Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436).

High Cost Area Supplement - Fringe

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £1,192 and a maximum payment of £2,011).
