An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for the position of Senior Project Nurse for Research at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The postholder will undertake specific projects related to clinical research delivery across the Trust and to provide additional senior nurse support and resilience within the senior research nurse team, due to the Lead Nurse for Research and Development working part time in a regional role outside of the Trust. The post holder will work with the Lead Nurse R& D and the Research Matrons for the Trust, Clinical Research Facility and Cancer Clinical Trials Centre to provide leadership and management to the clinical research delivery teams which include clinical research nurses, midwifes, clinical trials assistants and healthcare professionals who work alongside clinical teams to support and large and complex portfolio of innovative research across the Trust, providing patients with the opportunity to choose research as a treatment choice, providing them access to new and innovative health care provisions of the future.

They will ensure the effective and efficient delivery of the clinical research portfolio, assisting STH to meet national targets set by the National Institute of Health and Care Research (the research arm of the NHS), as well as contributing to the 5th pillar of the Trusts Strategy, Making a Difference.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking nurses with strong management and leadership skills and broad experience of managing teams.

The post holder will need to be highly motivated and passionate about providing the highest quality care to patients, possess exceptional interpersonal, communication, organisational and leadership skills to be able to lead and manage the dynamics, structure and development of clinical research teams.

They will need to demonstrate a proven track record of managing people and a commitment to continually improving the way healthcare is provided, as well as having a desire to embed and integrate research into routine clinical care.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

Educated to master’s level in clinical research or related subject or substantial equivalent experience in relevant discipline RGN (Adult part 1) NMC Register or Midwifery Leadership development training (module, course, certificate etc) Recognised teaching qualification or equivalent demonstrable teaching and assessing experience

Experience

Essential criteria

Extensive post registration experience in a range of settings including experience of leading / managing teams at a senior level (Band 7 or above) Specialist Knowledge of research delivery and associated workforce planning (i.e. trained in use of the intensity tool training) Evidence of effective change management including leading developmental and improvement work in a clinical environment Experience of chairing meetings and presenting information in a range of settings and formats including delivering highly complex presentations to high level audiences Experience of developing new processes and writing reports/SOPs/policy documents

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

In depth knowledge of the research process and of the Research Governance framework and legislation pertaining to clinical research in the UK Possess a good understanding of the national strategic context of the NHS and NIHR Specialist knowledge of research delivery and associated workforce planning (i.e. trained in use of the intensity tool training) Advanced organisational skills and ability to manage a complex workload under pressure and prioritise to meet multiple deadlines Able to evidence performance management skills and demonstrate strategies to meet NIHR performance objectives and other relevant targets Good IT skills competent in standard PC packages (i.e. Microsoft Office or equivalent)
