Lead Data Science (Bangkok based, Relocation provided, Visa Sponsorship Available)

Come and join us on our mission to make FATMAP the Home of the Outdoors . . .
the place where every adventure begins.

We are evolving and expanding our data science function as a strategic contributor to business and product decisions across the whole company. We are looking for a hands-on data science leader to deliver the next evolution of our data science capabilities.

About the adventure
We’re in business to help people have better, safer adventures in the mountains. Your role will contribute to this by designing an unrivaled user experience for our mobile and web applications.

FATMAP is the world’s only global 3D map built for outdoor adventure, trusted by the World’s top adventurers, athletes and mountain guides. We’re building the largest community of skiers, hikers, mountain bikers, trail runners and mountaineers around the world and enabling them to plan, experience and share their adventures.

Working with us at FATMAP, you’ll be joining a team who move fast and work closely together on our mission: to make FATMAP the Home of the Outdoors - the place where every adventure begins. We want to democratise access to adventure and make the experience simple, accessible and shareable.

We’re looking for someone who is as passionate about the outdoors as they are about their craft: someone who will be living and breathing the product with deep empathy for the needs of our users, yet able to rapidly design and help build a product to scale our product to support 10x growth over the next year

We’re a team of 40 people and life at FATMAP still feels very much like a start-up. To be at home here you should be comfortable moving fast in ambiguity, and able to create an organisation and structure to help us scale the business. We have ambitious goals and we’re looking for someone who is up to the challenge.

We operate a flexible remote working policy - pandemic permitting. You will be based out of one of our hubs in Chamonix, Berlin, Vilnius or Southern Britain and have the choice to mix working from home with time at the office, but should be no more than 2hrs from one of our hub offices to maximise the opportunity to spend time together as a team.

In our office you’ll find skis, muddy boots, full suspension bikes and ice axes instead of ping pong tables and fuzzball. They say there are no friends on a powder day but at FATMAP we hope you’ll do a few runs to test the latest app build before you hit the office.

The Role
We're currently inviting people from all backgrounds to apply and register their interest by uploading their CV. As soon as an opportunity arises we can be sure to contact you first should we find a potential match!

The Person

Passionate about having adventures in nature and especially in the mountains.

Understands the 'all hands on deck' approach required for a start-up environment and happy to work outside of their job description

Good command of the English language, with good written communication skills.

Ideally experienced in consumer apps / SaaS businesses.

Comfortable working with a distributed / remote team.

How Many AI Tools Do You Need to Know to Get an AI Job?

If you are job hunting in AI right now it can feel like you are drowning in tools. Every week there is a new framework, a new “must-learn” platform or a new productivity app that everyone on LinkedIn seems to be using. The result is predictable: job seekers panic-learn a long list of tools without actually getting better at delivering outcomes. Here is the truth most hiring managers will quietly agree with. They do not hire you because you know 27 tools. They hire you because you can solve a problem, communicate trade-offs, ship something reliable and improve it with feedback. Tools matter, but only in service of outcomes. So how many AI tools do you actually need to know? For most AI job seekers: fewer than you think. You need a tight core toolkit plus a role-specific layer. Everything else is optional. This guide breaks it down clearly, gives you a simple framework to choose what to learn and shows you how to present your toolset on your CV, portfolio and interviews.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in AI Job Applications (UK Guide)

Hiring managers do not start by reading your CV line-by-line. They scan for signals. In AI roles especially, they are looking for proof that you can ship, learn fast, communicate clearly & work safely with data and systems. The best applications make those signals obvious in the first 10–20 seconds. This guide breaks down what hiring managers typically look for first in AI applications in the UK market, how to present it on your CV, LinkedIn & portfolio, and the most common reasons strong candidates get overlooked. Use it as a checklist to tighten your application before you click apply.

The Skills Gap in AI Jobs: What Universities Aren’t Teaching

Artificial intelligence is no longer a future concept. It is already reshaping how businesses operate, how decisions are made, and how entire industries compete. From finance and healthcare to retail, manufacturing, defence, and climate science, AI is embedded in critical systems across the UK economy. Yet despite unprecedented demand for AI talent, employers continue to report severe recruitment challenges. Vacancies remain open for months. Salaries rise year on year. Candidates with impressive academic credentials often fail technical interviews. At the heart of this disconnect lies a growing and uncomfortable truth: Universities are not fully preparing graduates for real-world AI jobs. This article explores the AI skills gap in depth—what is missing from many university programmes, why the gap persists, what employers actually want, and how jobseekers can bridge the divide to build a successful career in artificial intelligence.
