A rapidly growing software company based in Manchester, focused on delivering advanced analytics solutions and looking for a Junior Data Science to join their Data & Analytics function. As a Junior Data Scientist, you'll be a key member of a cross-functional team, enhancing and developing state-of-the-art features for their platform. Your role will involve preparing and analysing datasets, crafting mathematical and machine learning models, and developing clear visualisations that translate intricate findings into actionable recommendations.


Role Overview

As a Junior Data Scientist, you'll be an integral part of a cross-functional team, enhancing their platform's capabilities. Responsibilities include preparing and analysing datasets, developing models with machine learning, and creating engaging visualisations that turn complex information into practical insights.


Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing, cleaning, and structuring data for model development.
  • Investigating patterns, trends, and anomalies within datasets.
  • Building and enhancing machine learning algorithms, with guidance from the Lead Data Scientist.
  • Presenting findings through clear, informative visualisations.
  • Writing and optimising SQL queries for data management and manipulation.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the business to meet objectives using problem-solving skills and sharing innovative approaches.
  • Researching and refining innovative solutions with the team.
  • Documenting processes and methodologies to aid team learning.
  • Communicating results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proactively developing new skills and exploring current methodologies in data science and analytics.


Required Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of probability, statistics, and linear algebra.
  • Proficiency in Python, including libraries like scikit-learn, pandas, seaborn, and matplotlib.
  • Experience writing and optimising SQL queries for data retrieval and manipulation.


Desirable Experience

  • Ability to communicate complex insights effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong desire to learn and develop within the data science field.
  • A portfolio of Data Science projects demonstrating your ability to solve problems with innovative ideas or coding challenges.
  • Familiarity with Agile practices in a collaborative team setting.
  • Exposure to big data tools, such as Hadoop and Spark, for managing large-scale datasets.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure.
