On behalf of our globally respected client who develop cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet the planet\'s vital power needs we are looking for a Junior Data Scientist for a 12 month contract based in Derby. (3 days onsite per week)

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated professional with an aerospace engineering background and complementary IT/data analytics expertise. This role bridges engineering and data systems, ensuring engine configuration data is correctly managed, analysed, and transformed into actionable insights. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering teams, support system changes, and contribute to digital transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Configuration & Data Management
    • Ensure configuration and performance data from engines is stored, validated, and maintained accurately.
    • Manage performance models and fault messages related to configuration and engine behaviour types.
  • Data Analytics & Reporting
    • Build and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards to support engineering insights.
    • Utilise SQL, Databricks, and Microsoft Azure to query, process, and manage large data sets.
  • Engineering Collaboration
    • Act as the interface between IT/data systems and engineering teams.
  • System & Process Development
    • Contribute to system migration activities and requirement changes.
    • Ensure robust processes are in place for data integrity and configuration control.
Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Strong IT and data analytics skills, including SQL, Power BI, and Azure.
  • Experience in handling configuration, testing, and implementation in engineering contexts.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineers and IT specialists.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Databricks and advanced data platforms.
  • Background as a Lifecycle Engineer with progression into IT/data roles.
