Role Overview:

we are in search of aJuniorAWS DevOps Engineerto join the team.

As part of an Agile Team, this role designs, develops, and maintains cloud infrastructure using a tailored SAFe Agile SecDevOps Scrum process. This role uses best practices and patterns to perform design, development using AWS Services and Infrastructure as Code.

You will also be expected to perform automated testing and unit testing, while performing automated deployments of software modules using a Continuous Integration Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tools pipeline. Duties also include participating in daily scrums, performing software requirements analysis, risk identification, risk mitigation, and collaboration across Agile teams. Flexible cross-training to also provide systems engineering, software development, training, security, and testing is also desired.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Version Control Basics: Gain familiarity with GIT for version control, including basic tasks like creating, managing, and merging pull requests (PRs) within a collaborative development environment. Basic Automation of Server Configurations: Assist in automating server configurations for security (logging, key management, system hardening) using tools like Ansible and Terraform under the guidance of senior engineers. AWS Fundamentals and IaC: Learn and assist in managing AWS cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, with exposure to tools such as Packer and CloudFormation. Scripting and Automation Support: Begin scripting and automating basic workflows using languages like Bash, Python, PowerShell, Go, and JavaScript to support automation tasks. Containerization and Configuration Management: Assist in deploying and managing containers with Docker and support configuration management tasks with Ansible. CI/CD Pipeline Support: Learn how to assist in developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, automating basic tasks such as testing, building, and deployment. Secrets Management: Assist in managing sensitive information securely using Vault under supervision, ensuring compliance with security practices. Agile Team Collaboration: Work within Agile teams, learning how to translate user stories into technical tasks and collaborate effectively with team members. Software Deployment Assistance: Support software deployments across different environments, gaining familiarity with version control strategies like Trunk-based development or GitFlow. AWS Cloud Infrastructure Support: Help manage AWS cloud infrastructure, including VPCs, DNS, Load Balancing, and related services, under the supervision of more experienced engineers. Security Best Practices: Learn and begin implementing AWS security best practices to ensure cloud environments remain secure and compliant. Monitoring and Logging Support: Assist in setting up and managing monitoring and logging systems within AWS to ensure stability, performance, and operational visibility. Adaptability in Fast-Paced Environment: Learn to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven environment, while ensuring tasks are completed on time and to high standards. Process Improvement Support: Participate in identifying potential improvements in workflows and processes, learning from senior engineers on how to optimize delivery standards. CI/CD Best Practices: Begin to understand and implement CI/CD automation best practices using tools like Jenkins, focusing on continuous integration and delivery. Problem Solving and Risk Mitigation: Learn how to apply problem-solving skills, with support from senior engineers, to identify and mitigate risks while following DevOps best practices. Cloud Networking and Infrastructure Understanding: Build foundational knowledge of AWS networking concepts, including security, logging, and monitoring solutions, to help ensure the infrastructure is secure, scalable, and optimized.

What does Leidos need from me:

Basic GIT Knowledge: Understanding of version control, with some experience using GIT. Desire to Learn Automation: Enthusiasm to learn and assist with automating server configurations using tools like Ansible and Terraform. AWS Interest: Basic knowledge or keen interest in learning about AWS services and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, and Packer. Scripting Basics: Some experience or willingness to learn scripting languages like Bash, Python, PowerShell, Go, and JavaScript to help automate processes. Docker and Ansible Familiarity: Exposure to, or desire to learn, Docker for containerization and Ansible for configuration management tasks. CI/CD Pipeline Fundamentals: Interest in learning about CI/CD pipelines, with a focus on Jenkins and automation best practices. Security Awareness: Understanding of basic security principles, with a willingness to learn secrets management using Vault. Agile Teamwork: Ability to work within Agile teams, with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Problem Solving Aptitude: A proactive approach to learning DevOps best practices and applying problem-solving skills, with guidance from senior engineers. AWS Networking Basics: Interest in developing an understanding of AWS networking concepts, including security and monitoring. Adaptability: Willingness to adapt to a fast-paced, results-driven environment, while learning and contributing to key milestones and project targets.

Desired Skills:

Certification or relevant coursework in AWS DevOps or cloud technologies is a plus
