My Product Path has been retained by a fast-growing Series B InsurTech backed by Octopus Ventures to recruit a Head of Product to join them on a permanent basis. This innovative company insures thousands of connected vehicles, including fleets from leading brands such as Jaguar Land Rover, Amazon, and Virtuo. Their data-driven approach enables real-time pricing of connected vehicle insurance and provides fleet owners with insights to improve safety and reduce risks. The company is on a mission to become the top insurance provider for connected and autonomous vehicles, and they’re building a world-class team to achieve this vision.


My client has already achieved initial product-market fit for its innovative insurance solutions and, backed by strategic partnerships with companies like Admiral Insurance, they are embarking on a high paced journey to scale and significantly extend our offerings. The Head of Product's mission is to tackle our customers' biggest challenges by transforming our insurance solutions. This will involve close collaboration with customers, cross-functional teams, and strategic partners to deliver impactful, customer-focused results at pace.


What is exciting about this role?


You’ll be leading a significant transformation of a multi-billion pound a year industry, by

innovating in digital motor claims, pioneering a scalable driving safety solution to quantifiably reduce accidents and enhancing our customer experience and operational cost efficiency. You'll maximise sales reach and conversion by delivering customer-first products solving real-world pains across our three customer types fleets, brokers, and carriers. All of this being achieved by delivering data-driven SaaS-like products at pace in a dynamic, cross-functional environment. To achieve this you will join as a key member of the Extended Leadership Team, reporting directly to the executive team and playing a critical role in translating strategy into action and results as measured in the market.


What do the first 6 months look like?


In the first six months you’ll be aligning the business to deliver on a single roadmap aligned with

our strategic direction and business goals (OKRs). To do this you will run the company level roadmapping process, activate 2/3 product squads and a data team to deliver that roadmap

with high product velocity, extract and embedded continuous customer insights in an organised

manner, manage key external partnerships (especially in the area of telemetry/connectivity),

work with the combined COO and CTO leadership to maintain pace with an efficient product

delivery process, coach, recruit and setup your team for success.


What we are looking for in a Head of Product?


  • You have been directly responsible for delivering customer-facing SaaS-like products at pace, including web/mobile applications and APIs, preferably data-dense products
  • Experience owning and driving interconnected domain Roadmaps that span multiple products and services. Proven ability to organise and influence stakeholders around a clear single roadmap, quarterly business OKRs and the associated investment plan
  • Reduce dependencies, remove blockers, and align stakeholders, working cross functionally as needed.
  • Highly pragmatic product leader with a focus on driving business outcomes through clear articulation of customer needs
  • Comes with a practical product management playbook and knows how to set both individuals and teams up for success both structurally and through hands on coaching
  • Proven ability to recruit, develop and retain high-performing product people. Able to motivate and grow ambitious team members through outcome-focus
  • Excellent organisation skills to maintain a constant ‘view’ of all activities ensuring they are focused on the most important thing. Paired with the ability to effectively delegate and empower teams
  • Concise and effective communicator who can translate technical and complex commercial concepts into easy-to-digest strategy and direction
  • Previous experience working with functions such as Data Science and Data Engineering on ‘data-rich’ products
  • Deep and demonstrable experience in Product Management, able to structure product discovery and execution activities to create transformative outcomes. Including a track record of
  • Previous experience working with or directly managing 3rd party provider relationships for critical services/capabilities
  • Previous experience managing Design teams and/or projects ensuring we reach high quality CX, UX and UI
  • Prior experience scaling a startup to Series B/C iteratively and at pace


Desired background:


  • Prior experience working as part of an Extended Leadership Team who report to the executive leadership team across all functions.
  • You have owned products designed to drive behavioural change in users
  • Experience in Telematics or Motor Insurance
  • Commercial acumen, ability and record of creating commercial business cases including revenue and budget forecasting
  • Understanding of Mobile App development and Mobile hardware
