As Enterprise Architect with Tesco Retail Media, you will drive the Technology direction of the omni-channel media products and platforms. You will collaborate widely across Business, Technology and partner teams to help accelerate technology strategy while delivering valuable outcomes for our customers combining business vision and industry best practices. You will have broader impact within the Tesco Media internal and external community, offering architectural guidance and support as well as having the freedom to spend time looking ahead and proving out new approaches, technologies, and tools. You will drive us to the engineering disciplines of modularity and abstraction, microservices architecture, event-driven systems, DevOps and agile. You will build multi-tenant systems complying with data privacy and security guidelines, operating at scale on public/private cloud. You are the thought leader for large and complex domains and set technical direction to translate strategy into action.

This role will report into Retail Media Chief Product and Technology Director. As an Enterprise Architect, you lead the formulation, development and alignment of new and existing Technology with the Tesco Media Business Strategy to collectively deliver a simpler, flexible & sustainable architecture. You define, communicate and govern the enterprise architecture by creating standards and guidance for Technology programmes and solutions in order to ensure it enables and delivers the business strategy.

Key accountabilities

  1. Fostering understanding of the current technology landscape and its impact on stakeholders:
  • Ensure we have models and materials that describe the media landscape at a high-level and how it supports the business.
  • Help colleagues of all levels to understand the bigger picture and their role/activities within it to aid decision making.
Evolving and embedding our overall Technology Strategy and ensuring it informs everything we do:
  • Define a target enterprise architecture that will improve our business for customers and colleagues in line with our business and Technology strategy and plans.
  • Identify organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes necessary to support the delivery of the enterprise architecture.
  • Identify the optimal approach to delivering Tesco business strategy while increasing agility and driving simplicity/cost efficiency over the short, medium and long-term.
  • Contribute to business planning activities utilizing our broad understanding of Tesco and broader industry/technology trends.
Guiding high-level delivery planning and solution design to deliver our strategic goals whilst ensuring we continuously deliver business value:
  • Work in collaboration with other teams (in media, within the organization and externally) to help ensure we design flexible, efficient and secure solutions.
  • Lead and facilitate the creation of governing principles, policies, standards etc. to guide solution decision making for architecturally significant initiatives.
  • Operate the architecture review, governance and exception processes.
Supporting successful delivery through the technology lifecycle, delivering business value and realizing strategic goals:
  • On occasion, provide targeted support for initiatives with technical challenges during their delivery.
Evolving our federated architecture and design framework as part of the Technology delivery model:
  • Build architecture capability and competency within Tesco in keeping with our emphasis on agile, DevOps and architecture is everyones role principles.
  • Create and operate an effective community to engage and educate Technology colleagues in enterprise and solution architecture topics.
  • Proactively collaborate and communicate with Technology colleagues and delivery partners to drive awareness and interest.
Create strategy documents and lead with POC serving as a role model to fellow engineers:
  • Innovate and keep abreast of industry trends and competition, grasping new paradigms and languages quickly. Evaluate new tools and approaches.
  • Work with team manager and build a high performing engaged team with external hiring, lateral move, growing internal talent and be a mentor and a thought leader.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven record of Technology delivery at enterprise scale.
  • Successful use of Enterprise Architecture to shape strategic priorities in Retail Media.
  • Solution Architecture experience on major programmes.
  • Creation, communication and embedding of Technology strategy.
  • Leading solution architecture governance/assurance.
  • Hands-on engineering experience.
  • Experience of more advanced design patterns such as CQRS, eventual consistency.
  • A polyglot set of languages, frameworks and technologies on which you can draw from your background of commercial experience.
  • Deep Technology understanding across Software, Infrastructure, Security and Data in Retail Media domain.
  • Architecture Modelling and Solution Shaping.
  • Technical Writing (Standards, Whitepapers & Cookbooks) & core technology development.
