Our client is hiring for a Head of Engineering, to help build an AI platform that links ordinary people to the most famous leaders, thinkers and idols, by using artificial intelligence and an extensive library of pre-recorded video footage. As a Head of Engineering, you ill be leading a cross functional engineering team to build an app that generates real-time, two-way conversational interactions on mobile, offering information, education, and entertainment. You will ideally be hands on, coming from either a mobile or Microsoft background.

Required Skills:

• Hands on software engineering background with at least 2 years in a team, project, or department leadership position.
• Have worked directly on mobile apps or backend APIs for mobile
• be familiar with multiple platforms and languages
• have worked on multiple cloud platforms including Azure and have some experience managing cloud infrastructure
• Evidence of leadership progression throughout career
• Held numerous positions equivalent to developer, senior developer, tech-lead, project-lead, head-of engineering, at a variety of company sizes
• Genuine leadership skills, no phony titles or “led a team of one person”
• People and project management:
• Managing people directly in engineering roles
• Coordinating with peers in product, design, and infrastructure
• Advising senior stakeholders about technical status and strategy
• Awareness and experience of good technical practices and making iterative improvements to team processes and practices:
• Agile methodologies
• Git workflows and practices
• DevOps practices

Desirable Skills:

• CosmosDB, GraphQL, ASP.NET
• Integrating C/C++ libraries with iOS and Android apps
• Unity on mobile
• Bespoke and off-the-shelf content-management-systems

Responsibilities

• Understand the entire tech stack and know where and how to make improvements.
• Be aware of the product roadmap and how well it aligns with the current and evolving technical estate
• Prioritize technical debt and schedule work on any technical dependencies before they are needed by product
• Manage and mentor engineers and QA people in the delivery team
• Coordinate with and support other disciplines within the business: product, design, AI, and content-production
• Identify potential improvements in workflows of engineering and other disciplines and pro-actively champion these initiatives
• Get hands-on writing code, services, pipelines, tools as needed
• Liaise with product to help spec out upcoming tickets in advance of more detailed refinement with the team
• Liaise with senior stakeholders to temper and validate business ideas and strategy from a technical delivery perspective
• Monitor staffing needs and suggest changes and additions where appropriate, hiring new people when necessary to ensure the team has all the skills it needs to thrive
