Our IT business continues to grow and we are now looking for an enthusiastic Graduate AI Engineer to join our vibrant Reading office with remote or hybrid working. This is an exciting role and would most likely suit someone who has recently graduated from a Computer Science degree with an ambition to pursue a career as an AI Engineer.

The Team

XPS Group IT provides IT services to all XPS offices located across the UK and Ireland.

You will join an existing AI Team and will support and implement the various AI initiatives that are running across the business including the continued development of our AI Platform. You will also support efforts in the delivery of bespoke AI implementations being carried out throughout the Advisory and Administration sides of our business.

This role will be remote with regular meetups at the Reading Office where our IT Hub is located. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work at your nearest XPS office if you prefer to be fully office based. This role reports to the Head of AI.

As a Graduate AI Engineer with XPS you will:

  • Build workflows, algorithms and pipelines using typical AI components i.e. Speech-to-Text (STT), Vision-to-Text (VTT), Text-to-Speech (TTS) and Image-to-Text (ITT) using models from OpenAI and similar providers along with open-source models and tools, predominantly using Python.
  • Maintain and improve existing Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) implementations against documents, websites, SQL and API services using custom APIs, vector database and ML techniques and tools.
  • Work with team members across the business in mapping out requirements to understand where AI can be implemented into existing workflows.
  • Innovate and experiment with new emerging AI tools such as AI Agents.
  • Implement and maintain ML / AI Ops systems.
  • Work together with developers to support AI / ML implementations within software projects.
  • Deliver solutions whilst being aware of internal data boundary controls in AI services.
  • Encourage, be open to and adhere to compliance, risk management and security considerations in relation to AI services.

Your profile

Essential Criteria

  • A 1st / 2:1 undergraduate or postgraduate degree in the Computer Science field.
  • Previous work placement during studies or a year work experience post degree would be highly advantageous.
  • You must be able to demonstrate strong Python coding skills.
  • A strong desire to build your career as an AI Engineer within an Artificial Intelligence team.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the current AI landscape, both open source and proprietary.
  • Strong conventional machine learning skills using Python and associated ML/AI Python libraries.
  • An interest in language model training, tuning, and optimization.
  • A keen interest in continuous improvement for AI solution quality assessment and benchmarking.
  • Demonstrable AI related self-built projects / GitHub use and commit history would be desirable.
