Job Overview:  The Manager of Digital Breeding, is responsible for setting up and managing a global digital breeding platform to accelerate the variety pipeline through predictive modeling and the development of New Genomic Techniques (NGT) varieties. This role is crucial in executing McCain’s new breeding strategy.

 

The Manager of the Digital Breeding Platform is in a critical position in the execution of McCain’s new breeding strategy. This role involves managing projects to enhance digital tools and leverage genomic data used in potato breeding, with a specific focus on genomic prediction and gene-editing technologies.

 

The Manager will ensure that the platforms can efficiently manage large-scale genomic data and support complex breeding algorithms. The Manager collaborates with regional variety experts, the global variety team, and the global digital team to design and implement genomic prediction models for potato breeding, and supports the development of NGT varieties by providing tools and techniques for efficient target selection and capture. The Manager of Digital breeding will also lead cross-functional teams in projects focused on advancing digital breeding technologies, including the integration of genomic and phenotypic data. The Manager will act as an expert in strategic collaborations McCain sets up in the NGT and Digital breeding space, and as a liaison between the Regional variety SME’s, breeders, data scientists, and software developers to ensure the digital platform meets the specific needs of potato breeding.

 

Qualifications:

Academic:

  • Must Have:Master of Science in Plant Breeding, Data Science, or Genomics

  • Nice to Have:PhD in Molecular Breeding

 

Professional/Technical Accreditations:

  • Must Have:

    • High level of understanding of bioinformatics and modeling

    • High level of understanding of the application of genomic data and models in plant breeding

  • Nice to Have:

    • Experience in genomic selection in potato breeding

 

Related Work Experience:

  • Proven ability to oversee complex projects with internal and external stakeholders

  • Experience in strategic program management

  • Experience managing genomics projects

  • Experience in the plant breeding industry
