Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst

Location: Edinburgh preferred, (Aberdeen and Bristol also considered) - Hybrid 2+ days in office per week 

As aGeographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst at Beam, you will assist with GIS requirements for an array of ocean energy projects. You will be involved with offshore map and chart creation, data management, data specification interpretation, report writing and processing digital deliverables. This position is crucial to supporting the geomatics and marine site characterisation team in delivering high-quality, client-focused geospatial solutions. 

At Beam, we are busy making offshore hydrographic and subsea surveys more autonomous, using autonomous ships, and underwater robots enabled by our computer vision, AI, and data technology. You do not need to have renewables experience for this role, giving you a fantastic opportunity to join the renewables revolution!

Objectives & Responsibilities:

Beam is an exciting and dynamic environment meaning these are likely to change as we grow. Upon joining your objectives and responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute GIS support to data products required by Beam’s hydrographic survey and inspection projects, working alongside our geophysicists and data processors
  • Utilise Esri’s ArcGIS Pro platform to deliver high-quality GIS products
  • Produce layouts and generate maps depicting hydrographic and geophysical data.
  • Ensure quality control and assurance of GIS data and charts against requirements.
  • Work within an agile cross-functional team with colleagues to improve internal data management processes.
  • Develop graphs and analysis to supplement our current reporting.
  • Stay up to date with GIS and geospatial technologies.


You should apply if you have: (We know it’s tough, but please try to avoid the confidence gap. You don’t have to match all the listed requirements exactly to be considered for this role)

  • Degree or qualified in Geographic information system's (GIS), Geography or related subject
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, inc. common extensions, ArcGIS Online
  • Experience creating maps and charts for a variety of purposes
  • Management of geospatial data
  • Strong communication skills, as part of a dynamic team
  • Sound time management skills & working to deadlines

Grow together with Beam where you will learn these skills or build on your expertise:

  • Working with offshore geospatial data
  • Experience using the Seabed Survey Data Model (SSDM) GIS schema
  • Scripting languages, e.g. Python, Arcade
  • Experience in the offshore renewables sector
  • Alternate GIS platforms, e.g. QGIS, MapInfo
  • Progressing towards or have achieved Chartership, e.g . CGeo

  • Team Interview:Engage in a 1-hour interview with a few Geomatics team members. Experience the role firsthand and share your skills and experience. We'll discuss our technologies, key skills, and team dynamics. As always, feel free to ask any questions you may have.
  • Executive Conversation: Meet with an executive for a 30-minute discussion. This is your opportunity to express your thoughts on the role and ask any final questions. We'll clarify expectations and ensure this role aligns with your aspirations.
