With a focus on Hollow Core Fiber (HCF) and cable, Azure Fiber is preparing for exponential growth driven by continued Cloud success and new Artificial Intelligence (AI) demands, ensuring that every Customer can rely on our infrastructure for high-quality, secure, and reliable connectivity to all Microsoft services.


The Azure Fiber team in Romsey is seeking dynamic candidates with energy and a passion for innovation to join our team. You will be working on fabrication processes for radically novel optical fibers, including glass preform manufacture, optical fiber drawing and associated processes. The role will involve operating specialist manufacturing equipment, and meeting agreed production targets to support the scaling up of our new fabrication facility to meet customer demand and company ambition. As such, this role involves hands-on work in our state of the art Romsey facility.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Relevant technical experienceOR formal training in a technical trade (e.g., machinist, electrician) AND technical experience in a similar industryOR Associate's degree in Engineering or a related field

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Responsibilities

Receiving guidance from an engineer, lab manager, or other technicians to determine which test tasks to perform, and achieving the agreed levels of operational throughput per shift. Performing the test processes to the defined specs. with guidance from an engineer, lab manager, or other technicians. Assisting in validating that manufacturing test equipment is operating within expected parameters with guidance from an engineer, lab manager, or other technicians. Performing manufacturing quality inspections to document process outcomes with guidance from an engineer, lab manager, or other technicians. Confirming optical fiber geometries by taking images and comparing readings against established test cases with guidance from an engineer, lab manager, or other technicians. Recording manufacturing test data and assisting with basic analyses to identify bugs, defects, or failure rates with guidance from an engineer, lab manager, or other technicians. Documenting daily progress and recording manufacturing throughput with links to spreadsheets, photos, and/or other supporting documents with guidance from an engineer, lab manager, or other technicians.
