ESG Data Associate, Investment Management

London, Hybrid Working


Overview

This role, with our Global Investment Management client, is central to enhancing ESG capabilities and advancing the firm’s commitment to sustainable investing.


Our client is looking for a skilled ESG Data Associate to support the development of ESG data infrastructure, reporting, and analytics. You will play a pivotal role in driving sustainable investment initiatives, collaborating closely with key ESG data providers and internal teams.


Key Responsibilities


  • Develop and maintain a centralised ESG Data Platform.
  • Improve and automate ESG data sourcing, processing, analysis, and reporting.
  • Enhance internal ESG reporting and outputs.
  • Assess and select external ESG data providers and solutions.
  • Provide portfolio-level analytics on climate risk, carbon emissions, and regulatory compliance.
  • Stay up to date with evolving ESG regulations (e.g., SFDR, CSRD, IFRS ISSB) and disseminate updates.
  • Design user-friendly tools to make ESG data accessible to non-technical teams.
  • Respond to ESG data requests from internal stakeholders.
  • Work with leading ESG data providers, including MSCI, Bloomberg, and FactSet.
  • Develop insights using data science techniques and explore new methods for ESG signal generation.
  • Engage in industry collaboration with regulators, investment associations, and other relevant stakeholders.


Key Skills and Attributes


Technical

  • Minimum 2 years of professional coding experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, particularly with libraries such as Pandas, Streamlit, and NumPy.
  • Strong SQL skills, including the ability to optimise queries and manage large datasets.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with MSCI ESG data platform (preferred).


Personal

  • Strong analytical skills with a clear and logical approach.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative, working effectively with diverse teams across the business.


Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree in a STEM subject.
  • Proven experience in coding within a financial institution.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple stakeholders and deliver results.
  • Familiarity with ESG data sets and ESG ratings providers.
  • Understanding of climate-related factors in investment decision-making.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and/or CFA designation is a plus.
