Tax, Technology and Transformation - ERP Senior Manager

Tax departments today face more challenges than ever before. Not only do they need to deliver their basic compliance and reporting commitments with reducing resources, aging systems and increased internal pressures, but they are also increasingly having to face the scrutiny of digital tax authorities who are becoming more invasive, demanding more data more frequently. For many tax functions, this situation is becoming unsustainable, and change is needed urgently.

The EY Tax Technology and Transformation Consulting team ("EY TTT Consulting") specialise in helping clients navigate these challenges, bringing together the most advanced technology platforms and tools with deep expertise in technology, tax & finance and consulting. The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and ambitious individual to join EY's specialist ERP capability within the Tax Technology and Transformation Consulting team, with a focus around direct tax ERP advisory work. This role will provide an opportunity to be involved in a fast growth part of the UKI Tax practice. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with significant multinational clients and to engage with our global EY network, providing a great opportunity to build and expand your corporate network.

Modern tax regulations are highly complex and dynamic, and our clients need our support with understanding what these mean for them in terms of technology, data and technology solutions, as well as data, controls, process and governance strategy. As a direct tax ERP professional at EY, you'll use experience of direct tax global rules and requirements, and knowledge of ERP functionality and additional tax solutions to help clients identify the right technology tools and manage their systems to deliver tax requirements effectively. The primary role would be to engage with clients and help to maximise the value that their ERP systems can deliver for tax, whether these systems are being implemented for the first time or clients are looking to extract more value from the existing ERP system.

In turn, we'll help you achieve your potential by giving you business advisory experience and professional development. Our senior tax professionals will support you throughout your career, helping you to grow and become a leader in the tax profession.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Running large scale client Tax ERP implementations, working with senior and junior colleagues.
  • Working with client teams across all phases of the project (Global design, local requirements gathering, configuration, deployment and go live).
  • Undertaking gap analysis and identifying and presenting technology solutions that should sit alongside a client's ERP to fulfil their direct tax requirements.
  • Build and develop our Tax ERP implementation proposition in line with regulatory changes.
  • Run workshops with clients to help capture the value in undertaking a Tax ERP implementation and help them build and develop their own business case.
  • End to end project management of Tax ERP programmes.
  • Facilitate workshops with both client and internal teams in different jurisdictions.
  • Develop key relationships with ERP vendors and explore opportunities to collaborate on tax functionality.
  • Support the business development effort to source client opportunities for the team.
  • Provide consulting support on processes, governance, and risk management for our clients, supported by documentation.
  • Keep up to date with the latest technology offerings and changes to ERP systems with a view to identifying client opportunities and enhancing our market proposition for clients.

Skills and Attributes for success

  • An understanding of how tax functions use ERP systems in their day-to-day processes.
  • Experience with ERP implementation projects or working closely with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft D365 or other ERPs).
  • Global tax requirements gathering and deployment experience.
  • A broad understanding across all Direct taxes (WHT, CIT, Transfer Pricing etc.) and Indirect Taxes.
  • Understanding of the processes clients would typically follow for Direct Taxes.
  • Experience of working on cross-jurisdiction projects, with multiple client and internal stakeholders.
  • Consulting background preferable but not required - used to interacting with clients and working on large-scale projects.
  • Ability to work with clients in a consultative way; helping them translate their tax function's business objectives, requirements into ERP solutions.
  • Ability to build up a pipeline of opportunities by undertaking business development activities within the role.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong communication with an ability to clearly articulate and engage with both Tax and IT stakeholders.
  • Strong team player and client relationship skills.
  • Strong coaching skills to help develop junior team members.

To qualify for the role, you must have:

  • Experience working within Tax (either in-house or professional services).
  • A strong interest in technology.
  • Experience in SAP and other ERP systems is preferable but not required.
  • An Accounting or Tax Qualification is preferable but not required.
