Emerging Technology Manager

Salary:National ranging from £67,100 to £85,000 London from £73,700 - £95,000

The team/department

The Emerging Tech & Research Team identifies critical and emerging technology trends affecting financial services over the medium and long term, translating these into tangible insights to inform regulatory and strategic thinking. The team leverages horizon scanning methods and proactively monitors technological trends impacting financial services to inform policy and strategy. Current research topics include quantum technologies, distributed ledger technology, embedded supervision and tokenisation, and horizon scanning across the financial services industry.

What you will be doing (the role)

  • Lead the Emerging Technology team within the Strategy and Architecture (S&A) function, overseeing the development of innovative emerging technology research which will impact external policy and internal strategy.
  • Design and develop the FCAs emerging technologies work programme, driving strategic initiatives that address business needs and opportunities.
  • Ensure that emerging technology initiatives are integrated with wider FCA policy objectives as well as internal strategic opportunities.
  • Engage internal FCA governance and delivery channels to socialise and approve team deliverables, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy, standards and protocols.

  • Take responsibility for analysis of emerging technology as it relates to UK Financial Services Regulation as well as understanding how novel technology can support internal FCA strategic objectives.
  • Grow strong internal and external networks in emerging technology, leading firms, regulatory bodies and partner networks, and build the FCA’s profile as an industry leader along with your own.
  • Provide leadership, education and communication to a wide external network as well as internal colleagues on the regulatory implications and applications of emerging technologies, through avenues such as webinars, keynote speeches, and published thought leadership pieces.
  • Foster strong relationships with senior management across the FCA community, ensuring that emerging technology research aligns with organisational objectives and market trends.

The skills and experience you will have

Minimum

  • Experience in working with technology analysis using foresight/horizon scanning techniques to deliver research on emerging or novel technology.
  • Experience of planning, prioritising and leading the delivery of work through others to time and quality standards, including managing or leading on more complex projects or assignments.
  • Experience of engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders across multiple levels combined with the ability to forge strong and meaningful relationships; you will need to work closely with firms and experts across the FCA.

Essential

  • Ability to self-motivate and set objectives with clear outcomes and success measures, delegating in line with experience or development need and empowering team to deliver to ensure successful delivery and wellbeing.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, ability to forge strong and meaningful relationships at all levels.
  • Proven ability to distil complex information and engage with details while considering the bigger picture and communicate research and analysis findings clearly and succinctly to target audiences.
  • Strong interest in technology, the individual will engage regularly with technical concepts and technology-focused stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of FCA tools and powers, the individual will need to consider how we might be able to use our tools and powers to support the policy development.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage a broad range of stakeholders, you will be responsible for ensuring the activities of the department are shared across the FCA, you will need to show you are able to flex your style to build consensus for new ideas.
  • Experience leading meetings with internal and external stakeholders, the individual will need to work with experts from across the FCA as well as external stakeholders.
