We are seeking an Associate or Senior Editor tojoin the editorial team with a strong background in molecularbiology/medicine with a preference for candidates with an interestin oncology or endocrinology. This is an exciting opportunity tocontribute to the editorial mission of BMC Medicine and to work aspart of a dynamic team of editors who handle original researchpapers including manuscript selection commissioning content andtravelling internationally to promote the journal.
This isa dynamic and varied role that will give you the opportunity to seecontent across a broad range of topics and contribute to thesuccess of BMC as a whole. This role is offered on a fulltimepermanent basis and can be located in our Beijing London orShanghai office (hybrid workingmodel).
RoleResponsibilities:
- Overseethe content published in BMC Medicine primarily by handlingindividual submissions but also by advising on content handled byeditorial board members assessing their relevance to the journaland selecting peer reviewers as directed by the ChiefEditor.
- Work closely with other editors on allaspects of the editorial process including identifying peerreviewers and managing the peer reviewprocess
- Support the investigation andresolution of publishing or research ethicscases.
- Contribute to the journal strategy andpolicies Commission and edit content such as Reviews Opinions andResearch Highlights Attend conferences and carrying out institutevisits to represent the journal Ensure that appropriate editorialstandards are upheld.
- Build excellentcommunications and relationships with Editorial Board Members andauthors.
- Ensure that all members of theEditorial Board are fully aware of the ethos and editorial policiesof the journal and have all necessary training and information toperform their roles.
Experience SkillsQualifications:
- Educatedto PhD or MD level (or equivalent) in molecular biology/medicinewith a preference for candidates with an interest in oncology orendocrinology
- Broad scientific interests inareas within and beyond yourspecialty
- Excellent communication andinterpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively withcolleagues at all levels
- Ability to criticallyassess manuscripts across a range of topics for novelty scientificcontent and their implications
- Excellent timemanagement and prioritization skills able to balance shorttermdeadlines with longterm goals
- Selfstarter witha positive cando approach toproblemsolving
- Willing to travel occasionallyand represent BioMed Central at externalevents
- Previous solid editorial experience isneeded to be considered for the Senior Editorlevel
