Job Summary & Purpose

This role is to provide strong leadership, governance, and up-to-date expertise in patient safety, quality improvement, compliance and risk management, to develop, embed and drive continuous improvement across the patient safety agenda in a technology focussed online psychiatry provider, specialising in the diagnoses of ASD and ADHD.


Role Outline

  • Have oversight responsibility for all aspects of the quality governance agenda, developing an effective patient safety framework. Champion and raise awareness of the benefits of effective governance and implement strategies to increase the knowledge of staff of quality processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Working closely with the Executive Team and Board to co-ordinate and provide leadership for the operational management of quality assurance and patient safety with the aim of ensuring the provision of high-quality safe care.
  • To enhance and strengthen the organisation wide quality improvement program in line with the PUK corporate vision, governance framework and operational plan and to ensure PUK is well prepared to meet external regulatory inspection requirements.
  • Co-ordinate and further develop the PUK’s clinical governance activities, policies and systems.
  • To ensure that audits are in place to measure, monitor and develop standards of care and service improvements.
  • To ensure that all aspects of the CQC regulatory requirements are in place across all clinical services and are responsible for ensuring that all outcomes from inspections are addressed.
  • To take a leadership role in regard to the PUK response and implementation of recommendations from external reviews and inquiries and to share this across Service lines.
  • To work together with other professionals to develop an organisational culture that ensures effective clinical care, stimulates innovation and change through critical appraisal, research and practice development.
  • Responsible for structuring, managing and developing the Risk, Safety, Governance and Quality teams.
  • To provide clinical and professional leadership to the nursing staff and other allied health professionals throughout the organisation.

As a key enabler of how patient care is delivered, you will need to be a natural collaborator and facilitator, bringing a wide-web range of people at all levels of the organisation and externally where relevant:

  • CEO/ Psychiatry UK Board
  • Exec Team: CEO, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Finance Officer, Chief People Officer, Chief AI Officer, Chief of Staff
  • Clinical Leaders, Clinicians, Allied Health Professionals, Enterprise Risk, Finance, HR, Transformation Leads, Technology
  • External: Regulators, Commissioners


Person Specification

Essential Areas:

  • Registered Nurse with evidence of extensive mental healthcare knowledge.
  • Breadth of experience of working in a similar role in an NHS organisation.
  • Knowledge of risk management, governance, and patient/carer collaboration within a regulated environment.
  • Proven track record of transformational leadership of services and enabling culture change in teams.
  • To act as a role model, exhibiting high levels of professional behaviour at all times including having the level of knowledge, skills and confidence to provide the right advice on patient care and safety.
  • Evidence of collaborative working with partners resulting in successful innovation and change.
  • Evidence of delivery of complex projects from conception to delivery and evaluation.
  • Proven track record of successful and sustained management of patient pathways.
  • Demonstrate effective system working and excellent collaboration skills.
  • Experience in leading large scale operational delivery of clinical services which realise quality, resource, and delivery benefits.

Desirable Areas:

  • Experience in a private sector healthcare provider.
  • Master’s level qualification in a relevant field.


Knowledge & Skills Specification

  • Skilled in strategic thinking and able to translate strategy into action.
  • Highly developed leadership, negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to motivate, challenge and engage individuals and teams.
  • Ability to set out a clear strategic direction, motivate others and assume a leadership position, together with an ability to transfer strategic objectives into deliverable operational plans.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with key partners and influence a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to bring about positive change.
  • Demonstrates a patient focus, leading to co-production and collaboration at all levels within services.
  • Highly skilled in collaboration and bringing together teams and organisations with strong relationships to deliver on the services for patients.
  • Proven ability to build enduring and effective stakeholder relationships acting as trusted advisor to executive leadership team and board of directors; as appropriate.
  • Demonstrable ability to evidence KPI outcomes through quality metrics from a variety of sources including patient data, workforce information, resource and quality data.


Compensation

Competitive (plus £1k home-working allowance per annum)
