An exciting opportunity has arisen within Dermatology for a band 7 skin cancer nurse.

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic, highly motivated registered nurse to work with skin cancer patients. Essential to the role is confidence to act as the skin cancer patients’ advocate, respecting the patient confidentiality, whilst working in partnership with the skin cancer lead, Consultant, medical staff and members of the West of Scotland local and regional Multi-disciplinary teams, to enhance patient care. Fundamental to this role is the ability to lead and manage their own nurse-led clinics at various hospital sites within Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The post will require the Nurse Specialist to have the skills and confidence to perform advanced and autonomous comprehensive physical examinations to assess skin cancer patients including for symptoms and signs of metastatic disease. In addition, be able to identify potential new skin cancers and plan and initiate medical and nursing care to achieve patient centred outcomes. They will have the skills and competencies required to manage a caseload within agreed boundaries and protocols in line with clinical governance. They should be up to date with current treatment and follow up protocols and play an active role in MDT meetings. Entwined around this clinical core are ties of consultancy, teaching, management and research and its application. It is recognised that this may be achieved both directly through personal contact with the patient and indirectly through a combination or focus on one of the following: Leadership, Facilitation, teaching and research/audit. They will assist to lead the CNS service both professionally and managerially, which may cross traditional professional or service boundaries.

The post holder should be able to demonstrate:

  • existing clinical skills
  • and experience alongside ongoing postgraduate professional training and development.

Counselling experience is essential.

However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
