That's where you come in

We are looking for aData Scientist to join our Telematics team. We use advanced digital signal processing and machine learning to process high-frequency sensor data with the goal of generating a comprehensive view of driving behaviour. We use this information to drive the future of insurance, creating fairer insurance products and helping drivers to be safer on the roads.

As a Data Scientist at Zego, you will be working with a world-class team of data scientists and engineers to lead the future of car insurance. You will play a key role in generating meaningful knowledge from data and answering difficult questions that can drive the development of the new generation of behaviour-based insurance. Ideally, This role suits candidates experienced in solving complex problems and exposure to digital signal processing or telematics.

What you will be working on

You will quickly build data processing pipelines to test and iterate on new hypotheses, enabling the deployment of new ideas and products into production You will extract relevant driving behaviour information through the analysis of geolocation, motion sensors, contextual data, or other relevant data sources You will apply your data expertise to surface key insights that will help drive decision-making and develop data tools that will improve our ability to understand driving patterns, driving context, and how it might correlate with the risk of accident You will effectively communicate insights and present complex analysis using data visualisation techniques You will work with the team to action the models and insights produced by Data Science

What you will need to be successful

You have a BSc or equivalent in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or similar quantitative disciplines Must have previous experience working as a Data Scientist Good understanding of data science principles, algorithms and practices, such as deep learning/machine learning, statistics and probability. You possess a thorough knowledge of software development process, and proven coding skills using Python You are proficient working with and querying structured data using SQL Ability to build solutions from scratch including writing and navigating code and requesting data from data sources You have the ability to clearly document your work and present complex information appropriate for the audience You can work in a cross-functional team, with data scientists and engineers in different domains, and collaborate with Product Managers and across teams to design solutions that make a real business impact

Other nice-to-have skills or interests include:

Knowledge of signal processing (signal modelling, projections, decompositions, and transformations), sensor physics is a plus Experience working with AWS Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes Previous experience working with large amounts of time-series data. Python-based data engineering or orchestration

We believe that teams work better when they have time to collaborate and space to get things done. We call it Zego Hybrid.

Our hybrid way of working is unique. We don't mandate fixed office days. Instead, we foster a flexible approach that empowers every Zegon to perform at their best.We ask you to spend at least one day a week in our central London office (next to Liverpool Street). You have the flexibility to choose the day that works best for you and your team. We cover the costs for all company-wide events (3 per year), and also provide a separate hybrid contribution to help pay towards other travel costs. We think it’s a good mix of collaborative face time and flexible home-working, setting us up to achieve the right balance between work and life.
