Business Description

Verisk Analytics is a multinational data and analytics risk assessment company and a leading source of information about insurance risk. In underwriting we create sophisticated risk models to assist insurers with risk selection and accurate pricing. Our range of models is broad spanning residential and commercial property perils, motor insurance, SME business covers, travel, pet and health insurance. To feed our risk models we source many diverse datasets covering high resolution weather data, property attributes, business activities and financial data, insurance claims and policies, medical information, aerial imagery and geodemographic data.

In claims solutions we support end-to-end claims handling with analytics and automation tools that streamline workflow, improve claims management and support better customer experiences. We also provide a fraud detection service across multiple perils and lines of business. Using intel processing, real-time fraud analysis and image forensics we help detect fraud at every stage of the claim and manage cases more effectively.

Role Purpose

Verisk are looking for a Data Scientist to support the development of various data science models to support the development of our risk management products. The International Analytics Team is a dynamic and exciting place to work: our projects are extremely varied and include developing supervised machine learning models, unsupervised clustering type models, language modelling, network analysis and a variety of other statistical analysis methods.

The successful candidate(s) will be at an early stage in their career. You will have the opportunity to play a key role in evaluating our datasets, providing analytical insights and in the evolution of models from inception to production.

This is an exciting and varied role with great potential for career development. We are looking for smart and highly motivated individuals who will enjoy being creative with modern data science techniques. You will have great attention to detail, strong technical skills and a desire to learn about the insurance industry. Excellent communication skills and a strong belief in teamwork are essential.

Support the Analytics Team build out new analytics products for claims and underwriting

Support a high-performance collaborative culture. Participate in peer-review with colleagues where appropriate to learn, teach, and ultimately, produce high quality results.

Execute data analysis and exploratory analysis (project design, processing of and cleaning of data, merging/joining disparate data sources, feature engineering, performing analyses and communicating results).

Produce models using a variety of algorithms (GLM, GBM, Random Forest, Neural Networks etc.) and assess the relative strength of each model

Identify which factors are relevant and predictive and should be included in the model build

Document processes, code, implement version control, and create functions/template code so that your successes can be applied to new data with minimal effort

Create clear and easy to understand reports. Verbally present analysis ideas, progress and results to colleagues.

Qualifications

Skills & Experience

Masters/PhD in maths, science or analytics related discipline

Solid programming experience ideally with Python and SQL

Experience with data manipulation and validation as well as modelling or statistical techniques

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Detail-oriented technical aptitude with strong logical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
