Data Scientist – Salary £30,000 - £40,000. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Insurance, Wealth, and Retirement Analytics Team (based in York, Norwich & Bristol), which is helping to shape the future of insurance by applying data science techniques. The team is recognised as a centre of excellence - providing analytical insights that improve decision making and performance within Aviva. This is a great job for a data scientist capable of using statistical modelling and machine learning techniques to improve outcomes for Aviva and our Customers A bit about the job: You will join a team responsible for creating and maintaining predictive models used across a range of business areas. The role will involve working closely with a variety of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, to maximise the usage of our insights, delivering and maintaining our data science solutions. Working with one of the richest insurance datasets in the world, applying sophisticated techniques and technology to all stages of the data science process. You’ll help to formulate problems, extract, and prepare data, apply modelling, and then deploy the solution. Aviva operates a “smart working” policy meaning that we spend approximately half of our time working in an office this role is based in, York, Bristol, or Norwich. Skills and experience we’re looking for: Degree/MSc/PhD or equivalent qualification or experience in numerate subject (e.g. Maths, Statistics, Applied Sciences, Engineering, Economics, Actuarial Science, or Computer Science with Math’s/Stats components). Experience of data extraction and manipulation (e.g. using SQL/Oracle) and data science modelling using R, Python, SAS, or others. Ability to handle big datasets and experience of machine learning techniques would be advantageous. Organised self-starter, with drive and commitment; and ability to work independently. Strong communication skills, to both technical and non-technical audiences.
