Data Scientist – Digital Underwriting | London Market Insurance

Location:London (Hybrid – Minimum 50% Office-Based)

Salary:Up to £75,000 (flexible for the right candidate) + 15–30% Bonus + Excellent Benefits

Gravitas Group is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a leading Lloyd’s market insurer for aData Scientistto join their high-growthDigital Trading division. As part of a strategic function within the business, this role offers a rare opportunity to directly influence underwriting profitability, automation, and digital product innovation.


The successful candidate will join a newly established data science and analytics team, working on high-impact projects focused on Digital Lead and Follow underwriting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver data science and AI solutions to automate processes and drive profitability in digital underwriting
  • Cleanse, analyse, and interpret both internal and external (e.g., broker) data sources
  • Support pricing improvements and portfolio optimisation through collaboration with actuarial teams
  • Develop dashboards, reporting tools, and data visualisations to generate actionable insights
  • Define and prioritise data requirements with stakeholders across IT, underwriting, and analytics
  • Play a key role in building data capabilities in support of digital trading strategies


Key Requirements:

  • 2+ years' experience in data science, actuarial, or analytics roles (insurance/Lloyd’s market preferred)
  • Strong programming skills (Python highly desirable)
  • Solid background in statistics, data manipulation, and data analysis
  • Experience with tools such as SQL, Power BI, and Azure Data Factory is an advantage
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills (technical and non-technical)
  • Experience supporting data requirements for digital or automated underwriting workflows
  • Experience with online quote-and-bind platformsis highly desirable
