Job Summary


The Data Scientist applies machine learning, statistical modelling, and analytical techniques to extract value from the varied datasets used across GKN Aerospace Engines. Working within the Data & Analytics Office, the role focuses on exploring complex data, developing predictive and statistical models, and delivering analytical outputs that support engineering, operational, and business decisions. The role provides technical input during discovery, advises on feasibility, and delivers end-to-end analytical solutions.

Job Responsibilities


- Apply machine learning and statistical methods to engineering, operational, and business challenges using data such as machine time-series, manufacturing records, logistics/ERP data, and unstructured documents.
- Conduct exploratory and diagnostic analysis to assess feasibility, identify insights, validate assumptions, and support value-proving work.
- Develop, train, validate, and refine predictive models, including classical ML, deep learning, statistical models, and LLM-based solutions.
- Build analytical workflows end-to-end, including ingestion of unstructured data automated pipelines, and the use of LLM and agent-based approaches where appropriate.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers and IT to ensure reliable data pipelines, data quality, and scalable processing within the on-prem Kubernetes (k8s) environment.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest data science and machine learning technologies and techniques.

Qualifications & Personal skills


- Technically strong in machine learning, statistical modelling, and data science practices, with proficiency in Python or similar tools.
- Comfortable working with varied and complex datasets, including time-series, enterprise data, and unstructured/text data.
- Familiar with on-prem environments, containerization, and deployment practices such as Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Passion for working with data and driving business insights and value from data analysis.
