At Encord, we are focused on building the AI infrastructure of the future. Data quality is the biggest challenge facing AI companies today. In fact, the success of any AI application depends on the quality of the model's training data — and for 95% of teams, this essential step is both the most costly and the most time-consuming in getting their product to market.

As former computer scientists, physicists, and quants, we experienced firsthand the lack of tools for preparing quality training data, which hindered the progress of building AI for many teams. We founded Encord to address this gap and propel the next generation of AI applications.

We are a talented and ambitious team of 60, working at the cutting edge of multimodal and visual AI, backed by top investors, including CRV and Y Combinator, leading industry executives like Luc Vincent, former VP of AI at Meta, and other top Bay Area leaders in AI. We are one of the fastest growing companies in our space, and consistently rated as the best tool in the market by our customers. We have ambitious plans ahead and are seeking to expand our Operations team to assist the broader team in creating a superior product for our customers.

The Role:

As a Contracts Manager, you will join the growing Operations team at Encord. Your main responsibilities will include drafting, negotiating, and finalising various legal agreements with a quick turnaround involving multiple stakeholders. This role demands a proactive individual with prior experience in handling commercial contracts and general compliance matters, preferably with a background working with SaaS or other technology companies.

What you'll do:

  1. Be a trusted business partner and respond thoughtfully to requests from the Encord team and customers regarding company policies, legal issues, and risk tolerance.
  2. Thoroughly evaluate the risks, legal obligations, and commitments associated with contractual agreements. Ensure these are clearly understood and that the senior team fully understands any potential impact on the business.
  3. Review, draft, update and maintain internal contract documents.
  4. Review contract performance, assess commercial risks, and ensure appropriate steps are taken to manage such risks.
  5. Identify opportunities to improve processes, standardise contract templates, and automate contract management workflows to boost efficiency and effectiveness.
  6. Play a key role in driving growth objectives and extend support to the Encord Go-to-Market Team throughout the sales cycle.

About you:

  1. Previous experience with drafting and negotiating similar agreements.
  2. Ability to demonstrate experience in autonomously negotiating terms and finalising these types of contracts.
  3. Proven ability to multi-task and manage workload to achieve tight delivery turnaround times.
  4. Consistent attention to detail and thorough approach to drafting and negotiating contracts.
  5. Excellent decision-making and analytical abilities focused on minimising risks, along with clear and effective communication skills.

Ultimately, a successful candidate must be curious, passionate about technology, enjoy working hard, and thrive on continuously being challenged.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Work experience in either Corporate or Commercial Law.
  2. Expert in objection handling through negotiation cycles.
  3. Experience working with products or tools leveraging AI.

What We Offer:

  1. Competitive salary, commission and equity in a hyper-growth business.
  2. Strong in-person culture: most of our team is in the office 3+ days a week.
  3. Room to grow into anything you choose to — a year ago we were 25 people, now we're 60. We'll be growing insanely fast over the next 24 months and you'll have all the opportunities for growth as you can handle.
  4. 25 days annual leave a year + public holidays.

Encord offers a unique opportunity to be part of a startup with a clear mission and vision. You will get to explore and build services enterprise AI use cases across many different industry verticals such as healthcare, surveillance, retail, agriculture, and more.

Our work is at the cutting edge of computer vision and deep learning and includes solving unsolved problems within those fields.
