An opportunity has arisen for suitably qualified psychological practitioner to join our dynamic Waltham Forest Psychological Services. This is a permanent, part-time post involving working across both the Community Care and the Mental Health and Wellness Team (MHWT).

You would be a core member of a MHWT multi-disciplinary team.Working in this Team will involve embracing community psychology principles,- understanding the needs of local populations, and working in partnership with service users, carers, peer support workers, voluntary sector and Local Authority colleagues to develop creative and innovative projects that address the psychosocial needs of our clients, particularly those who are less well-served by existing ways of working.

You would join a growing group of psychologists within and across boroughs that collaborate and meet regularly for peer support and to share ideas and experiences about using community psychology principles within the transformation process and to champion psychologically minded and trauma informed care within the MHWT.

The post holder would also join a well-established team of psychologists. We are a friendly, collaborative and supportive team who deliver time-limited and structured individual and group psychological interventions to adults with complex mental health difficulties. The team includes psychologists, with skills in Compassion Focussed Therapy, CAT, Schema Focussed Therapy, Mindfulness and EMDR - as well as specialist CBT.

Main duties of the job

1. Have a doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council

2. Be able to provide a highly skilled psychological services to clients with secondary care mental health difficulties. Duties include: psychological assessment, and therapeutic interventions (individual and group) to adults with complex mental health difficulties. This role will include the provision of enhanced specialist psychological clinical assessment, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, and psycho-education, working within the policies, procedures and protocols applicable to the service. 3. Have highly developed skills in the assessment and management of clinical risk and mental health conditions, and to undertake risk assessments and risk management for patients with complex mental health conditions providing expert advice to colleagues on the psychological aspects of risk assessment and its management and effectively documented in a timely manner when Deliver a culturally and ethically sensitive, equitable psychological therapy service to all minority groups regardless of race and ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, culture, religion, and disability; to include service users in the design and delivery of the service.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement 15% of basic salary, with a minimum of £4,551 and maximum of £5,735, pro rata for part time staff.

Job responsibilities

This post involves carrying out psychological assessments and interventions, offering consultation and supervision to assistant, trainee and Clinical Associate Psychologists (CAPs) and members of the multi-disciplinary teams. You will also have the opportunity to join with us in on-going service development and improvement initiatives.

Experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients with secondary care mental health problems within the NHS is essential. A keen interest in working with this client group is essential as well as the ability to apply evidence-based psychological therapy approaches and work with autonomy and flexibility. Additional specialist training in advanced therapy skills, such as CBT, as well as experience in teaching and delivering training, would be desirable. Experience and/or interest in setting up, running and/or co-facilitating groups would be desirable.
