The successful candidate will be responsible for building the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and big data technologies. In addition, the Cloud Engineer will lead IT projects and workstreams whilst identifying, designing, and implementing internal process improvements to support the optimisation of data delivery and create opportunities for greater scalability.What you bring* Experience designing and implementing software applications whilst overseeing customised development of processes for multiple projects simultaneously.* Advanced working knowledge of SQL and experience working with relational databases and query authoring (SQL).* Proven track record of developing algorithms and implementing productionised operational solutions to drive the benefit of machine learning.* Experience working with cloud services, stream-processing systems and object-oriented/object function scripting languages.* Effective relationship management and communication skills with the ability to positively influence and challenge senior stakeholders.* Experience working with Azure Synapse Analytics and with one or more BI visualisation tools, primarily Power BI is advantageous.Please note – ScotRail offers a hybrid working model which is typically 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.What we offer youScotRail offer an excellent rewards package including:* Contributory Final Salary Pension scheme.* Free and reduced rate rail travel for you and your family.* Generous holiday allowance.* Enhanced company sick pay and family leave including maternity, paternity and adoption.* Life Insurance cover for 4 x annual salary.* Contributory lifestyle benefit options including discounts at hundreds of retailers, cycle to work scheme, discounted gym memberships and healthcare cashback plan.Please note that due to the volume of interest received these vacancies could close prior to the published date.Selection ProcessSelection process: A practical assessment exercise and competency-based interview will form the initial stages of the selection process. The final stage for successful candidates will be a medical questionnaire. Appointees must submit at least two satisfactory references, Disclosure Scotland clearance and complete a six-month probation period.
