Overview

Centre Of Observational Research Programmer

Location: Uxbridge

Duration: 12 months

Key Skills: Epidemiological study and SAS

Centre for Observational Research team are looking for an early career or recent graduate programmer to produce analysis datasets and perform statistical analyses and reports for observational research studies from data stored on Databricks.

The preferred candidate will have SAS or R programming skills. Knowledge of SQL would be useful. Use of Gitlab/Github would be a bonus as would an understanding of statistical and epidemiological methods such as epidemiological study designs, propensity score methods and survival analysis. Candidates with limited statistical and epidemiology knowledge who are eager to learn are encouraged.

Candidates must be comfortable with learning how to create complex analysis datasets derived from complex databases and have a careful eye for outliers and errors. This will include checking the accuracy of programs written by colleagues.

The role will involve interpreting plans of analysis developed by our epidemiologists. The main skills we are looking for are the ability to interpret and clarify the details of a plan of analysis, provide constructive feedback and contribute to the implementation of a methodologically solid analysis, and to implement the programming necessary to deliver the results requested. Communication is key in this role.

The role will also involve contributing to collaborative efforts aimed at improving efficiency and quality of the work performed by the programming team. Candidates with the ability to think outside of the box and to come up with innovative ideas and solutions to achieve the above will be strongly preferred.

At times the successful candidate will need to deliver results within short timelines and will need to balance more than one study at a time. The ability to work effectively and successfully in a team environment, strong documentation, communication and time management skills are essential.

Candidates will need to have experience of programming in R or SAS. An MSc in Computer Science, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or other subject with high programming or statistical content is preferred but not required.

The successful candidate will be offered to the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and exciting team that values trust, mutual respect, and collaboration among the team, and that is constantly striving to improve. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be offered the opportunity to learn new technologies and expand their knowledge in observational research and Real World Data Science. Fast-track career progression and training will be provided.
