Job Description

Job Title: Business Intelligence Developer

Reports To: Head of Technology

Full time position: 38 hours per week

Salary: £28k - £33k per annum, plus share options

Unfortunately we are unable to sponsor visas for this role. Please only apply if you already have the right to work in the UK.

Pedal Me Overview

We are the pioneering Pedal Me. We do deliveries across London by cargo bike - carrying more, further, faster. Carrying out a huge range of logistics tasks - from flat moves to collecting empty kegs, to transporting kids to school.

We are deeply unusual in the logistics sector in having employees, rather than contractors, carrying out our work. To make this work we are unusual in a number of ways - specialising in training our staff to a high standard, creating greater efficiencies, but also expecting all staff to do some riding, to help us manage peaks in demand.

When we started there were less than 100 cargo bikes in the whole of London. Today - we’ve been part of helping increase the total number of cargo bikes between personal and business use to well over 10,000.

We’ve also got a history of carrying out ground-breaking data science in the cargo bike logistics space. Although this role would mainly be focussed on business insights to drive performance, there would also be opportunities to go after innovation and research funding to create new data science in this nascent sector.

This is a huge job, with the opportunity to contribute materially to the development of the sector.

Could you contribute to our groundbreaking ways, and help us set light to the cargo bike sector once more?

Job Overview

You will be responsible for Pedal Me’s business intelligence reporting suite, supporting both operational and strategic decision making. Specifically, you will manage the organisation’s data warehouse, syncing and organising data from various systems and databases (MongoDB, Xero, Deputy, Square to name a few, as well as GPS data from our bike tracking systems) in a unified location.

You will oversee the organisation’s self-service reporting tool, Google Looker and work with the SLT, operations team and tech team to identify, standardise and implement consistent KPIs across the organisation.

You will be expected to come up with innovative and new uses for our data, such as working with customers and key partners to provide insights into the cargo bike logistics sector.

You will have the opportunity to restructure the tech stack, selecting and implementing the tools and systems you think best match the needs of the business.

This is a hybrid role, where you will primarily work from home. However, all staff are expected to ride during periods of high demand. As well as helping us provide a fantastic and flexible service, this will help you in your role, providing amazing context for your data insights that few other roles can provide.

You will be comfortable communicating with a team that generally works on a distributed basis. That means online meetings and communication through channels such as Slack and Google Chat. You will be an excellent documentor of systems and processes, ensuring everything you do is clear and accessible to your colleagues (technical and non-technical).

This means on some days you will be working on-call with a bike either at our HQ in Southwark or on a distributed basis in central London.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • A strong BI background, with experience developing insightful reporting and reporting systems
  • Demonstrable experience managing a data warehouse
  • At least 1 year working with SQL databases
  • Experience with Looker, Google Big Query and/or NoSQL databases like MongoDB preferred but not essential
  • Experience developing in PHP/Laravel a huge bonus but not required
  • Great communication and documentation skills
  • Comfortable riding a bike in London and dealing with a range of cargo and customers on the ground (full training for this will be provided)
