Associate Professor in Artificial Intelligence

University of East Anglia is looking to appoint an Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence (AI) on our Academic Teaching and Research (ATR) pathway. This is an opportunity to join a growing team of researchers in Data Science and AI, at the interface of a very active Science Faculty.

Salary on appointment will be £58,225 per annum, with an annual increment up to £67,468 per annum.


Role Overview

You will be involved in research and innovation, and in the development and delivery of teaching. We are particularly interested in candidates that will be able to contribute to expanding our research and teaching portfolio in AI, with a focus in data science, machine learning, image analysis, natural language processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs) or generative AI. You will contribute to advancing research that translates AI innovations into impact and to developing and delivering innovative interdisciplinary teaching at the interface of computing and AI.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in AI and related fields, expanding collaborations across Science and beyond.
  • Secure research funding as a Principal Investigator from government or industry, preferably linked to AI or Machine Learning.
  • Publish high‑quality research as corresponding author in prestigious international journals.
  • Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including core topics such as programming, AI, machine learning, deep learning, data science, NLP, LLMs, and more.
  • Supervise PhD students to completion and engage in innovative pedagogical practices.

Qualifications

  • PhD (or equivalent) in AI or other related subjects.
  • Proven experience of high‑quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and module development.
  • Extensive research portfolio and track record of attracting funding.
  • Strong network of national and international collaborators from academia and industry.
  • Experience in course development and use of innovative and traditional pedagogical practices.

Additional Information

This full‑time post is available from 16 March 2026 on an indefinite basis.


UEA offers a variety of flexible working options. Although advertised on a full‑time basis, we consider applications from individuals who would prefer a flexible working pattern including annualised hours, compressed working hours, and hybrid working. Details of preferred hours should be stated in the personal statement and will be discussed further at interview.


Benefits include 44 days annual leave inclusive of Bank Holidays and additional University Customary days (pro rata for part‑time). The University holds an Athena Swan Silver Institutional Award in recognition of our advancement towards gender equality.
