At Affinity Water, we're launching an exciting two-year programme to revolutionise our performance reporting, visualisation, and insight capabilities at scale and speed. To accelerate this vision, we're growing our Data Strategy & Operations team. As an Associate Data Scientist, you'll support our data science efforts by extracting valuable insights from complex datasets to help shape business strategies. This role is perfect for recent graduates or those early in their data science careers who are eager to apply their skills in a real-world business environment. You'll collaborate closely with a talented team, contribute to data-driven projects, and support innovation through partnerships with leading research institutions in our Data Science Centre of Excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Collect, clean, and preprocess structured and unstructured data for analysis.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to uncover trends and patterns.
  • Develop and implement statistical models and machine learning algorithms.
  • Assist in deploying models into production and monitor their performance.
  • Work with stakeholders to translate business challenges into analytical tasks.
  • Design clear, compelling data visualisations to communicate insights effectively.
  • Write well-documented, efficient Python or SQL code for data analysis.
  • Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices in data science.
  • Proficiency in Python or R, with experience using libraries like Pandas and NumPy.
  • Solid understanding of machine learning techniques and frameworks.
  • Experience with SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts such as hypothesis testing and regression analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle complex datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present insights to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with real-world datasets through academic projects or internships.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and version control (Git) is a plus.
  • A proactive, curious mindset with a passion for learning and innovation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams and adapt to evolving business needs.

Qualifications

Salary & Benefits
  • Salary c £30,000 per annum dependant on experience
  • Hybrid role, with the expectations of a minimum two days a week in the office in Hatfield
  • Annual leave from 26 days rising with length of service, and the option to purchase up to 5 extra days.
