The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Worcester Polytechnic Institute invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual with expertise in applying computational tools and artificial intelligence, alongside experimental approaches, to study molecular behavior relevant to the life sciences.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is a multidisciplinary program which offers degrees at both the undergraduate (B.S.) and graduate level (M.S. and Ph.D.). The Department is located at Gateway Park, a modern research hub, which offers excellent research infrastructure, including computational facilities. Research strengths include a focus on elucidating basic science at and proximal to cellular membranes, drug discovery, development of biomaterials and diagnostic tools as well as (bio)chemistry education. Faculty are regularly funded by the NIH, NSF, DOD, DOE and various corporate sponsors.
Applicants should have a strong background in cheminformatics, with experience in utilizing computer technology and AI to study molecular binding to targets, protein folding, structural analysis, and/or homology comparison. We are particularly interested in candidates who can apply these skills to solve complex problems in molecular science, including drug discovery. The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program leading to national and international recognition, to teach chemistry and/or biochemistry at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, to participate in WPI’s signature project-based curriculum, and to contribute to the operation and promotion of the department, university, and the profession.
