ASSISTANT GENERAL COUNSEL – TECHNOLOGY, DATA PROTECTION AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

LONDON (HYBRID WORKING – 1-2 DAYS PER WEEK IN THE OFFICE)

PERMANENT ROLE

Role Overview:

Morgan Philips Specialist Recruitment is representing a world-leading professional services firm in their search for an Assistant General Counsel to join their in-house legal team. The candidate should be an experienced commercial lawyer specializing in technology, data privacy, data protection, and AI. The role involves providing practical, business-focused legal advice to global business and corporate services partners.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide legal support on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters for a global professional services organization.
  • Advise on technology, data privacy, data protection, AI, and related matters; support day-to-day commercial and regulatory legal issues.
  • Help ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations across jurisdictions and network policies.
  • Support technology and risk management teams with legal support for their activities.
  • Develop and implement governance and operational policies, procedures, and playbooks.
  • Review and advise on new services and solutions, including governance processes and legal/regulatory issues related to technology, data privacy, data protection, and AI.
  • Manage external legal counsel in multiple jurisdictions efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Balance practical, business-focused advice with risk management and compliance obligations.
  • Make presentations and write articles on important legal topics.
  • Mentor and support junior team members.

About You:

  • UK-qualified lawyer (or equivalent outside the UK) with significant experience at a major law firm or relevant in-house experience.
  • Expert legal skills with the ability to lead complex legal and regulatory issues.
  • Strategic risk management skills with quick issue identification and mitigation recommendations.
  • Experience negotiating, drafting, and reviewing transaction and commercial agreements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex files, collaborating effectively with business teams.
  • Ability to balance the needs of a fast-growing global business with legal and compliance risk management.
  • Self-motivated, thriving in a fast-paced environment with global stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
