Airworthiness Officer – Contract

Summary of Role:

The Airworthiness Officer will be based in Broughton, North Wales and reports to the Head of Airworthiness, and will support the existing airworthiness officers. The Office of Airworthiness main function is to act as an interface between the client and the regulating authority/agency.

Main Duties:

For aircraft design changes and repairs:

  • Establish and maintain Certification Compliance plans

  • Advise on the applicable Military and civil airworthiness requirements

  • Produce and support in type certificate change or repair classification (Major/Minor), compliance demonstration and presentation at customer Local Technical Committees (LTC) and Configuration Control Boards (CCB)

  • Production and management of certification and compliance reports including the tracking of compliance documents and coordination with certification verification engineers and subject matter experts

    For design safety management:

  • Manage and maintain the SMS element of the Design Management System (DMS)

  • Maintain the Design Organisation Risk Register and administer Risk Register reviews to ensure it continues to record, assess and mitigate design related hazards

  • Investigate reported design related safety occurrences and conduct root cause analysis

  • Support safety assurance process including resolution of non-compliances and required procedure improvements

  • Actively promote the design organisation SMS and communicate and prepare key safety risks/concerns for airworthiness and safety meetings

  • Maintain effective coordination with the Aviation Safety Team to ensure that design SMS requirements are fulfilled.

    Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the following: MAA regulations and Def Stan 00-970, Part 21 DOA, civil aircraft airworthiness regulations and certification specifications, interfaces with maintenance and Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisations.

  • Aerospace design background, adequate knowledge of multiple aerospace design disciplines.

  • Experience with Product Data Management tools.

  • Good verbal and written communication.

  • Eligible for or Holder of current SC security clearance (RSL will sponsor as required)
